Hello,

I have a Brother DCP-195C printer that is no longer working. The "Photo Capture" button is lit in green and a red exclamation mark appears on the small screen. What should I do to get my printer working again?
Thank you in advance, have a nice day

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 52.0

    hi

do you have any error code that shows up in addition to the "lights"?

    Hello billmaxime,

Thank you for your attention. No, I don't have an error code. It worked well on another PC, but now I have another computer where I'm trying to install the Brother program for Windows 7. However, when I get to the point of connecting to the printer, the PC does not see it.
On a laptop where I had already installed Brother, no error code is displayed. It doesn't work on this laptop either. It seems that it is not recognized by the computers. All I see is the photo capture button in green and on the small screen, the red exclamation mark.
    Is it recoverable?...

    ok

It worked well on another PC

What was the operating system of that PC, and how did you install the printer on that PC?

Now I have another computer where I'm trying to install the Brother program for Windows 7

Do you have an installation CD?

Did you install the drivers on this PC with W7?

I'm attaching the manufacturer's website page for your printer, in case you need to download the drivers, etc...

I installed the printer with its installation CD when I bought it a few good years ago. I have both CDs, even for Windows 7, even for Windows XP.

I went to the link you gave me, I downloaded the drivers and the software for Windows 7, and I continued with the installation. Everything goes well until I reach the point where I'm asked to plug in the USB cable. The "Next" button doesn't appear and the installation stops at that point. Is it possible that the cable between the PC and the printer is the cause? ...

The printer broke a few months ago when the red exclamation mark appeared on its small screen. I tried restarting it several times, by slamming the lid, moving the printer, until it finally stopped working, and the red exclamation mark wouldn't go away. That's all I remember.
I will try to buy another cable tomorrow to ensure that this isn't the cause.

Uninstall and reinstall the printer, I don't see anything better

    Good evening billmaxime,

I bought another cable, but it hasn't changed the situation.

That's the problem, I can't reinstall the printer since it's in an error state, the computer doesn't see it.

    Thank you :)

    re

I think the printer is dead...

    Try this again:

Delete everything you see related to the printer on your PC

Unplug it from the PC (the USB cable)

Unplug it from the wall socket

Leave it "completely" unplugged until tomorrow

Tomorrow, plug it back into the wall socket, and try the installation again

I think so too, and it's a shame because this Brother brand is really good, and you can't find it for sale here in Casa anymore... I used to refill it with a syringe, very fast, it worked well for several good years.
I recently bought a Canon, and every time I change the ink cartridges, it's like buying a whole new one again, and I don't like it at all because it's way too slow. It doesn't even scan when it doesn't have ink, which seems absurd to me. lol

I'll try again like you said tomorrow.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart, good night :)
