[ScanGear CS] Connection issue with scanner

Problem with ScanGear CS...
Here is my problem that I can't seem to resolve.
Has anyone had the same kind of "failure" and found "the solution"?
Thanks in advance for helping me out of this mess!
With Win XP, I had a CanoScan 3200 F for two years that fully satisfied me.
Now, it has stopped working, giving me the messages indicated later.
After long hours of trying to find a workaround without success, and thinking it was ultimately
a hardware failure, I just went and purchased a CanoScan LIDE 60.
After uninstalling the old one, and installing the new one by strictly following the manual's instructions,
I am facing the same problem as with the old one, even after changing the USB port (you never know!)
With Word "Acquire text..." with Omnipage Pro 11:
"Direct OCR - Error"
"Unable to load the image: restart the process", then
Message from ScanGear CS:
"Unable to communicate with the scanner.
The cable may be disconnected.
Please perform the necessary checks.
The scanner driver will be closed."
With Paint Shop Pro 5:
Message from ScanGear CS:
"Scanner error
Please turn it off and follow the instructions in the manual.
The scanner driver will be closed. (Code: 201)"
Followed by the message:
"An error occurred while attempting to open the data source."
Where could this be coming from? And what should I do? I haven't found anything anywhere.
