Open a file with FIT extension

My GARMIN watch records information when I walk or run.
I transferred them to my PC, but the said information is in FIT files that I cannot open.
I went on the web to download software, but twice, my antivirus advised me against downloading the proposed software.
That is why I am coming to your site for an answer.
