Custom Shape Dashed Outline

Solved

Hello everyone,

A beginner's question for sure, but despite some research online, I still haven't found the answer.

I have a custom shape, i.e., one that I created myself (it’s a trapezoid with rounded edges), and I would like to add a dashed outline to it. I tried selecting it, converting the selection to a path, and setting a dashed outline, but without success.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks in advance.

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 56.0.2924.87

Hello

- Draw the shape, assign it a border of your chosen thickness, knowing that the selected thickness will be that of the dotted line
in the options bar, to the right of the stroke color module, click on the visual representing a solid line to open the list and choose dotted

- To adjust the position of the dotted line, the dimensions of the dashes and spaces, and the shape of the dashes: click on more options in the same window

I add that if you want to keep the dotted line created, simply click on save, then ok, the dotted line will be added to the listing.

Thank you for your response!

The problem is that, in my case, my shape which is a trapezoid with rounded corners is a merged layer made from several shape layers (4 circles and a trapezoid). So I no longer have access to the options bar that allows me to add a dashed outline.

In that case, the best thing to do is to redraw the outline of your shape with the pen tool.

There is indeed a possibility to convert a pixelated or dynamic shape into a path, but the result is usually so ugly that I would prefer to advise you to redraw it, even if it takes a bit longer.

Thank you for your response!

And once I have the outline of my shape drawn with the pen, what should I do?

you convert the path to shape in the options bar and apply your stroke
