Hi,
Which version of Word are you using?
Here’s how to do it with Word 2010:
Select the box, then right-click, and go to "Borders and Shading."
In the window that opens, go to the "Fill" tab.
In Fill, you can choose the color,
below, you have style and you can choose 5% or 10% for example, it gives small dots spaced quite nicely.
Is everything okay, are you managing?
