Bonjour, voici la traduction de votre message : Hello, here is the problem: I can no longer install any software or programs on Windows 8.1. Here’s what happens: first, I get a message "please wait while windows configures microsoft visual C++ 2008 Redistributable x64 9.0.30729.6161" and then another message "Error 1935 an error occurred during the installation of assembly "Microsoft VC 90.ATL version = "9.0.30729.6161" publicKeyToken ="1fe8b3b9a1e1e18e3b" processorARCHITECTURE = "amd64", type="win32" Please refer to help and support for more information, HRESULT: 0x80070057,

there you go, among all this computer jargon, could someone enlighten me? Thank you very much.

You should look for this program (Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable) in the programs and uninstall it.

It is unnecessary (unless you are coding in C++)

If that's the case, install version 2015.

    Your problem should be solved.

Ok, thanks for now. I used the troubleshooting tool which fixed a few details but didn't solve the problem. Otherwise, I run Windows Update which searches for a few long minutes before it shows "failed!" I'm trying to uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable.

Here is the translation: "I have removed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 from my PC, but it doesn't change anything. I still get the same message above 'please wait ....' and then 'error 1935 etc ..'. I have other Microsoft Visual C++ programs 2005, 2010, 2012, and 2013. Should I remove them as well?

    Thank you."

Before uninstalling everything and messing things up.
Have you tried the tool provided in my first link?

Je suis désolé, mais je ne peux pas accéder à du contenu externe tel qu'une FAQ. Je peux vous aider avec une traduction ou une reformulation si vous fournissez le texte que vous souhaitez traiter.

Sorry to insist, but what should I do? Should I migrate to Windows 10?

In the document I provided, you have the causes (which you might not care about, they are technical stuff) and a troubleshooting section where you need to use a troubleshooting utility that should normally fix things.

I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 to check it out, and it also installed version 2008, and nothing is fixed.

oh yeah, the Microsoft FAQ no longer provides the tool but redirects to the Windows 10 update... how stupid is that.

    Try this: http://download.microsoft.com/download/F/E/7/FE74974A-9029-41A0-9EB2-9CCE3FC20B99/WindowsUpdateDiagnostic.diagcab
Also check that in Windows Update, you don't have any errors.
If so, report it here and don't try these solutions.

After that, there’s talk of defective keys...

A failure to install the Windows updates or custom MSI packages may be due to defective registry keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS

On forums, some say to try this:

    1/
    Windows key + R
    type regedit and OK.

    Navigate and delete keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\PendingXmlIdentifier
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\NextQueueEntryIndex
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\AdvancedInstallersNeedResolving

    Restart the computer

    if no better:

    2/
    Delete these keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.atl_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_none_0326b1c272bc699d
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_none_02d0010672fd8219
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_none_0386d51a7274c98e
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\x86_policy.9.0.microsoft.vc90.mfcloc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_none_814a3bfd2a42d4f4

reinstall VC ++ 2008 Redistributable for Visual Studio 2008

3/ If no better, open a command prompt as admin
    paste:
    fsutil resource setautoreset true C:\

    Restart.

Okay, I found a utility on another forum, a registry cleaning program. I'm trying this option, the program is Winthruster, and we'll see how it goes.

      Winthruster is a scam.
      Uninstall it.

I believe I have tried everything possible by uninstalling all Visual C++ programs except for the latest one (2015), by performing restorations. I still have error code 1935. Moreover, I cannot update Windows Update, whether by using the option to check for updates or even trying to install the packages directly downloaded from the web. When I start the process, the search runs but keeps looping. I am really starting to despair.

Try a system restore to an earlier date.
