Empty home screen on Windows 8.1 after PC update from CG13.

Solved

Hello,

I am in 4th grade and I received a PC from the General Council 13 (HP 255, Windows 8 Pro) two weeks ago.
As soon as I received it, I noticed that the new applications loaded were not displayed on the start screen, but could be accessed by going to "All Apps."
I thought an upgrade to Windows 8.1 would solve the problem. However, after the update, the start screen was completely empty and it was impossible to pin anything. Accessing the applications can be done through "All Apps."
So the update made the problem worse.
I have tried everything, rescanned the system, but no issues have been detected.
Could someone give me solutions or ideas? Thank you in advance.

NOTE: It is indicated that Secure Boot is not properly configured, but when clicking on it, it states that it is normal due to the HP PC being incompatible with this Windows function.
Best regards
Wrodar

Configuration: Windows / Chrome 30.0.1599.101

    Press simultaneously on <Windows> + <R>

Copy/Paste the following command in the window and then press <Enter>
    Code:
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows

In the file explorer that opens, right-click on the file appsFolder.itemdata-ms and choose Properties.

    - Uncheck the read-only option.

    - Then restart the PC.

    And IT WORKS!!!!

Hi, you had the same problem as me. But when I try your solution, well, when I do window + R and insert the code you gave me, it says file not found. :/

You help no one by saying that.
Either you provide the link to the video, or you explain how your message can help others.

    Sorry, it's rather Windows + X

    Fatigue, I suppose.

Thank you for the help, but pressing Windows+x opens the start menu of Windows 8.1.

    Hello
Is your taskbar visible on your Desktop?

Yes, I have the taskbar on the desktop.

Aside from the lack of tile on the home screen, and the pinning of tiles on "all applications" which ultimately never results in anything, everything is great.

    Best regards,

Do you go directly to your desktop on startup without going through the metro?
And in Win 8.1, you no longer have the function > All apps.
When you click at the bottom of the page, you have the green bar with only > Personalize.

Upon starting, I arrive on the welcome screen, but there are no pinned tiles on this home page.
At the bottom left of the home page, there is a small arrow that allows switching from the home screen to all applications. This works well, so it is a substitute method for the empty home screen.
At the bottom right of the home screen, there is the customize button.

I have this page (home screen) but it is empty: No tiles.

Before upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1: I had tiles. However, loading new applications did not result in the creation of the corresponding tiles on the home screen. They could be found in "all applications", but it was impossible to pin them to the home screen: In any case, when we tried, it didn't work without any message indicating that it wasn't working.
After the upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1: all the tiles disappeared from the home screen. No tiles at all, upon startup I arrive at this metro menu, but there are no tiles when I go to "all applications" to start the applications.

But if there were already problems with Win 8 when you received this PC, the Win 8.1 update didn't fix anything.

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

Then press Windows + X -> Command Prompt (admin) .
In the command window, paste the text and press Enter.

Good evening, at my place after this operation, there was a whole green sentence, and just after that, three paragraphs in red. The first sentence of the first paragraph says: add-appxpackage: deployment failed with HRESULT: 0x00073CF6, unable to register the package.

I think you'll need to format the DDur and reinstall a system.
But as a student, don't you have access to a free operating system?

Me too, after the Windows 8.1 update, nothing is on the desktop anymore, you just need to create shortcuts for your software on the desktop and that's it.

For Goinks: The problem is not the office, but the absence of a tile on the home screen.
