Hello,
I am facing the following problem:
the margins I have when I start printing are misaligned (a very large one at the bottom) instead of 2.5 all around. I am using Word or PDF, it's the same problem. I was told that it wasn't a printer issue, but a configuration issue on the computer. I'm not sure.
Does anyone have an idea?
I have an HP Photosmart C5180

Hello everyone,
sorry for all the fuss over a problem that turned out to be simpler than expected: it was an issue with the (old) printer: the paper was coming through too quickly because I was pressing a bit too hard on the guide to set it... The sheet was starting too early and therefore the margins were off...

  It was therefore a hardware issue that could not be guessed at all!
  My answer #1 which was perfectly correct for adjusting the top and bottom margins
  of the document by software was entirely valid and was unfairly marked negatively! Thank you Philippe for responding to me! Best regards.

Thank you very much, but it's still not working:
I'm having the issue with all scenarios. If I'm reading your message correctly, I need to go to the margins window when I'm in a Word document (which I do regularly since I only use custom settings practically for every document I print). I don't see how to proceed with your advice to get there (Alt + m + g + a: is that a shortcut? Do I need to press those letters one after the other? In any case, I can access the window tab. No configuration works (whether it's narrow, normal, moderate margins, and especially custom ones, which interest me). I always have a huge margin at the bottom and a cut-off text at the top.
It would be nice to hear back from you again.

  My shortcut < Alt >< m >< g >< a > works very well with Word 2007.
  It comes down to: tab "Page Layout", same-name group, click on the
  dialog box launcher (= the little square just to the right of the
  group name) => "Page Layout" window; 1st tab "Margins",
  you have the box at the top right for "Bottom :"; that's where: enter a
  smaller number to reduce your margin; for example: 1cm instead of 2cm.

So, the layout on the screen is normal, right?

Some suggestions:
When you start printing, go to the printer properties, look for advanced properties or something similar; the menus change from one printer to another, to find the scale. It should be set to 100%
The PDF, how was it created? by an editor?

Otherwise, upload your file empty of its content, putting only the text of your question in this thread for example, and we can eliminate the layout issue of the file. Feel free to include your Word version

  For your 100% zoom, I have a big doubt, because regardless of the zoom,
  100%, smaller or larger: proportionally, the bottom margin
  will always be 2.5cm larger than the others! But it’s a
  good idea to suggest attaching the file.

Hello everyone,
I have Word 2007
I found the advanced printer settings, but I don’t see a zoom option (I only have: margins reduction enabled/disabled. Whether it's one or the other, I always have the same issue...
spraying/drying time, etc... nothing more on the margins.
By the way: I have exactly the same problem when saving as PDF.
The layout is normal when I do a print preview

  Maybe a paper size issue? "Page Setup" window
  (as mentioned before); 2nd tab "Paper"; Paper size
  : check if it's set to "A4"; change it to what you need. :)

  I just checked your Word document:
  
  a) The paper size is correctly set to A4
  b) Your top and bottom margins are 2.5 cm; if you set your bottom margin to 1 cm,
  then obviously your bottom margin will be smaller; that's what you want,
  isn't it? You won't have a very large margin at the bottom anymore! ;)

    Thank you for your response, but it still doesn't work!...
    (I tried your idea (2.5 at the top and 1cm at the bottom, the preview is perfect, but it comes out with a margin of almost 10cm and the text is cut off at the top. It's crazy... I don't see what I can do, it's very limiting. If you have any other ideas, I really want to see this through, but I admit I'm out of options on my own. So your help, from each and every one of you, is really appreciated.

    In that case, in my opinion, it’s no longer a problem with your Word document
    but rather an issue with the printer. It might be a special option on your
    printer? If so, in your “Printer Properties” window, check
    all the options, looking through all the tabs, and clicking on all the
    buttons like “Advanced Options” or “Additional Settings.”
    You might see an option related to margins or the zoom
    of the print (also called Scale). But as I wrote
    earlier, I think zoom will keep the same proportions;
    thus always a larger margin at the bottom than at the top.
    
    If none of the above worked, I agree with you that it’s
    completely ridiculous! So maybe you need to update your driver
    (= device driver)? If so, go to the HP website to download it.
    Of course, indicate the model of your printer: “Photosmart C5180”
    and the version of your Windows.

    I'm leaving you to read my message #14; I'm adding this:
    
    When you go to the HP website to download a recent driver, select Windows 7
    if you have that version of Windows; furthermore, on your CCM profile, you should
    indicate your version of Windows, and also that of your Office software; so as
    you mentioned in your message #8 that you have Word 2007, put: Office 2007.
    This is also useful if you use, for example, Excel 2007. ;)
    
    Reminder: on the CCM profile, it's in the “Configuration” section.

  As anticipated in your initial request, your response confirms that the problem does not originate from the Word file and we need to look elsewhere.
  Apparently, you are not the only one experiencing this issue with an HP printer.

  You should check if you have been able to print correctly before.
  If so, see how long this issue has been going on and what has happened on your machine. Check all the printer settings; HP printers also have a memory reset option.
  If you have changed operating systems, go to the HP website to download the appropriate driver version.
  
  This is one lead, because you haven't responded regarding how you create the PDF with which you have the same margin issue. It's likely with an editor, in which case the printer wouldn't be at fault.
  So we are going in circles.
  
  First, from the Word file, use the Office button and Export as PDF.

Hello philippusmagister,

If you have Word 2007, in your Word document:
< Alt >< m >< g >< a > => "Page Layout" window;
Margins tab: you need to reduce your Bottom margin.

  To those who rate very intelligently -1 to encourage goodwill:
  I clearly stated that my shortcut < Alt >< m >< g >< a > is valid for
  Word 2007. If the shortcut is different in a later version of Word,
  it's up to you to make a little effort to find out which one! Best regards. :)

  my "Page Layout" window, so I can guarantee this keyboard shortcut
  ; if you don't have it with Word 2007, it's because you have customized
  Word to assign it another shortcut key. Soon a -3? ;)
