Connecting an old amplifier to a new mixer?

Hello, I just acquired a Soundcraft Signature 12 mixing console, and I have a perhaps silly question. While I'm waiting to buy monitoring speakers in a couple of months, is it possible for me to connect this mixer to a Yamaha AX-590 hi-fi amplifier? I have already connected my computer to this amplifier via RCA on Tape Rec Out, and it works, so the sound from my PC plays through my speakers, which is what I now wish to achieve with the mixing console (just temporarily for now). On this old amplifier, I have 2 inputs labeled (also RCA) MAIN IN and 2 outputs labeled PRE OUT, which I'm not quite sure what they are for, and according to the manual, it seems I can connect through there... I'm not entirely sure I've understood correctly, so before doing anything foolish and damaging the mixer or something else, I prefer to ask... Just to clarify, I only want to connect a dynamic microphone at the moment to practice singing while playing acoustic drums, which is why I want the sound coming from my hi-fi speakers (JBL LX800, which are connected to the Yamaha amplifier)... I would still like to note the explanation of the PRE OUT/MAIN IN terminals that I do not understand; if you have an explanation, that would be great. "These terminals are used to connect a signal processing system such as an equalizer or a sound processor. If a sound processor or external device is connected between these terminals, it is possible to use the Volume control of that device to perform a global adjustment of the sound level." What do we call a sound processor? Can I connect this mixing console to that spot?

Hello,There's no risk of damaging the amplifier or the mixing board by connecting via RCA :)There's also no problem using jack (headphone) to RCA adapters if necessary.Just connect the mixing board in place of the computer and the sound will go out through the speakers: - on the mixing board, connect to a port marked "OUT" (audio output), for example, the port - on the amplifier, connect to a port marked "IN" (audio input), such as the one labeled "AUX".Everything else (computer, microphone, etc.) should be connected to the mixing board.Best regards,

With pleasure :) The role of the mixing console is to aggregate sounds (microphone, music...) and make them available. The amplifier takes only one audio source at a time and sends it to speakers. There are devices that combine both functions (amplifier AND "light" mixing console) but this is not the case with this equipment. The "PRE OUT" and "MAIN IN" are used to apply a "final" treatment to the sound coming out of the amplifier, independently of the selected source (CD, AUX...). Generally, an equalizer is connected here (used to adjust bass, treble...), with the first cable going from "PRE OUT" to the input of the equalizer and another going from its output to "MAIN IN". For you, as no device is connected in this area, you normally have rigid connections linking "PRE OUT" to "MAIN IN", removing them will simply mean you will have no sound. It will work if you connect the mixing console to "MAIN IN" but this is not intended for that. Connect it to any other socket that is not marked "OUT".
