Connecting a guitar amplifier to a mixer.

Why not connect the microphones and the guitar to the mixing desk? The desk, connected to the powered speaker, will work since the headphone output won't cut off the sound.

The normal connection is:

instruments ----------> mixing desk ----------> amp.

Not: instruments ----------> amp ----------> mixing desk.

If you need to listen with headphones, you can plug them into the mixing desk, which should have a headphone jack.

The difference with the connection I describe is that the sound of the recording (which is typically done on an output of the mixing desk) will be different since the stages of the amp won't be "in the circuit," which makes a difference especially with tube amps.

No problem. I know that the sound from the amp is preferable. I was simply pointing out that there are other ways to connect. I wanted to address the issue of the sound cutting out when the headphones are plugged in.

It's really not stupid, I hadn't thought of that, the only problem is that this Fender amp allows for creating a lot of different sounds, that's its great feature, and in your case, I definitely can't do it :S

I'm sorry to contradict you, but that's false. Everyone knows that to achieve an optimal guitar sound, the greats want the sound of THEIR guitar amp, not the amplification related to the speaker here. It's no coincidence that they often mix the guitar by placing a mic on the amp.
If I do what you say, I won't be able to use the different sound effects available with my Fender guitar amp, and on top of that, I would amplify my guitar with a PA speaker instead of using an amp specifically designed for this purpose.
