Time capsule not plugged into the router box

Hello,

I just bought a Time Capsule 2T. Is it possible to have the Time Capsule in a different room from the router without it being connected to the router?

I don’t have the option to place the TC next to the router and it’s impossible to connect it with a cable for daily use.

For the first use I plugged it into the router, activated it, and I even made my first backup with Time Machine. Then I unplugged it to put it in the room where the computer is, which is at the other end of the house compared to the router. But now it’s not recognized and it’s blinking orange.

How can I get it recognized and have it work with my router’s wifi?

I can’t find answers on the net. Thanks for your help.

Configuration: Mac OS X (10.11.6) / Safari 10.0.2

Thank you very much Francis, but when going to the airport, does the TC still need to be plugged into the box with the Ethernet cable?

      Hello

If you cannot access this Time Capsule via Wi-Fi because it does not yet know the local network, for the initial setup you must connect it by Ethernet cable, perform the configuration so that the Wi-Fi network is saved in the various tabs, set it to bridge mode, after which it will be possible to intervene later via Wi‑Fi.

In the wireless tab / extend a wireless network, Airport doesn't offer me a name. And I just read on another forum that it's not possible with Livebox. However, I have never created a network at home; I use the name of my box and its WEP key to use Wi-Fi. Maybe that's where the problem is. I don't understand anything, I followed your instructions and now the TC is blinking orange. So I wonder if it's possible to do what I wanted with a Livebox Play :(

Good evening, Each network has a name, even if that name is just a string of letters or numbers without explicit meaning. For example, if you pull down the Wi-Fi icon in the Mac menu bar, you’ll see your network which corresponds to your Livebox; you’ll notice it’s named in some way... I don’t have in mind exactly how Wi-Fi networks of Livebox are named, but I seem to recall that it’s a word like Livebox followed by a sequence of characters... that’s the name to use, and the WEP key you use and that is linked to that Livebox. I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Unless the Livebox has been configured in non-router mode, or with MAC address restrictions for security purposes. NB: Do not confuse the word MAC, which corresponds to a hardware address of a computing object, with the name Mac, which corresponds to a type of computer. I know that you can access a Livebox from a web browser to configure its mode of operation, but by default a Livebox is originally in router mode, and without access restrictions on any MAC address, so it should work if no specific parameters for that particular Livebox have been changed. ....
