Hello,
a colleague is currently experiencing an issue after purchasing a new external hard drive (WD Elements 1TB).
She wants to connect it to her TNT decoder just like she did with her Verbatim (1TB), which worked without any issues. (Both hard drives do not have an external power supply.)
However, the new one is not recognized by the decoder.
After some troubleshooting (swapping WD/VERBATIM cables, formatting to FAT32 using Formatter32, creating partitions...), the problem persists.
Is there an incompatibility between ETIMO and WD?
Thank you in advance for any information or assistance.

Hello lawren0 :)
If the WD Elements hard drive works correctly on a PC, I think it would be wise to take a look at the decoder/recorder manual to see if there are any specific requirements regarding the external hard drive (the USB device) on which the recordings will be made. Normally, there should be a dedicated section detailing the characteristics and specifications to consider.
To my knowledge, there might also be some limit on the maximum size of the hard drive supported by the decoder. Could it be a capacity of 500 GB at most (with WD Elements being 1 TB)? Could you confirm that the other hard drive used with the decoder is 1 TB?
Keep me updated on your progress, please :)

Hello Sannin,
thank you for helping me with this issue.
The hard drive works on PC.
I have already searched the web for a detailed WD technical manual and came back empty... only quick guides appear without technical specifications... I have also looked at topics discussing this type of problem and found nothing that could help.
I read the manual for the ETIMO T2 V2 but there are no indications of conflicts with WD drives.
Regarding support, that’s what I thought, but the Verbatim is also 1TB and I have tested with two partitions of 500GB without success. (However, I have one of the two partitions > 500GB but it should have recognized at least one partition, right?)
I want to specify that the Verbatim that works is also formatted in NTFS.
That's that... -
@lawren0, hi there :) Indeed, I don't think it would be a brand compatibility issue… It would be good to check the format of the HDD, for example.
One idea: if I'm not mistaken, the manual of the receiver/recorder explains the procedure to format the external HDD from the recorder itself. Would you be able to do this test? By the way, that same manual confirms that NTFS is indeed supported.
@lawren0, have you tested the HDD on both USB ports of the recorder?
Don't hesitate to also seek the advice and assistance of the receiver/recorder support (the Hotline service, for example). The manual should provide the respective contact details.
See you later

Hi,
It's impossible to format via the ETIMO, as the hard drive is not recognized.. It's powered (you can hear it spinning) but there's nothing we can do. We're stuck right at the first step of the formatting process described in the ETIMO manual.
Both ports have been tested without success.
I'll send a quick email to ETIMO just to...
Talk to you later++ -
After a new formatting (this time lengthy) in NTFS, the hard drive is now recognized... It remains a mystery to me, but since the issue is resolved, you can close this topic.
Thank you nonetheless for your help.
