Hello

Once again, I come to ask for your help
I am, still and always, with Windows XP and Outlook Express
I can receive all my emails but I can no longer send any!!!
The following message appears:

Cannot send the message because the server rejected the sender's email address. This address was 'patrice.million@wanadoo.fr' Subject 'title of my email' Account '1 Patrice Million', Server 'smtp.wanadoo.fr', Protocol: SMTP, Server response: '550 5.1.0 Authentication required. Authentication Required. OFR102_402 [402]', Port: 25, Secure (SSL): No, Server error: 550, Error number: 0x800CCC78

I tried with my other email addresses, same negative result
What should I do or can I do?
Thank you in advance
Best regards

Hello,

Who is your internet service provider? Orange?

Indeed, it's Orange
There must be a settings issue because just before, I couldn't open my emails or go online at all even though the box seemed to be working fine since the WiFi was working!!! I could check my emails and go online with an iPad
And a technician from Orange who came to fix the phone line was able to, by doing some quick manipulation on my PC, get everything working again: receiving emails, going online..
Best regards

In your Outlook Express account configuration, make sure that the box "My server requires authentication" is checked.

First of all, thank you
I checked my account
they all have the following settings:
incoming mail: pop.orange.fr
outgoing mail: smtp.orange.fr
and the box for my server requires authentication was not checked, which has always been the case!!

Following your advice, I checked that box and ..... it works!!!
So thank you
but a small additional question: why?? Until now, that box was never checked and everything worked!! Moreover, I didn't check the settings
But the important thing is that everything works
Thanks again
Have a nice Sunday
Best regards

Maybe Orange suddenly decided to authenticate customers in order to prevent abuse, particularly spammers looking for open SMTP servers to distribute their spam.

Have a good Sunday as well.
