Hello, this is my first message on this forum, although I've been reading it for a long time, thank you for your indulgence :)
Having taken my tower from my ex after a year of serving as a bedside table (yep, it’s sad), I'm just trying to reboot it. After fixing a few minor issues, here’s one that’s giving me a hard time:
When I power on the computer, two scenarios present themselves to me (at random, well, it looks that way)
- the first is an error message that appears on the screen after the suggestion to enter the BIOS and says "cpu over temperature error press f1 to resume" (this is not a screenshot of my computer, but it’s that screen that appears https://i.ytimg.com/vi/hQJzDnCXuH4/hqdefault.jpg except that for me, there's more text before the error message)
- The second is the Windows screen offering startup options (normal, last known good configuration, safe mode, etc...) and none of them work.
In both cases, the result is the same: the computer shuts down after about ten seconds.
All the fans are working fine, everything is properly connected (well, on the surface, I’m not a pro either, otherwise I wouldn’t be here laying out my problem), the only apparent issue is the thermal paste that has never been changed in 5 years and is all messed up.
I'm going to buy some tomorrow and replace it, but I still have a doubt: is it possible that the computer heats up enough in 15 seconds to shut down, without even starting Windows... (considering I have a MacBook that easily hits 90°)
I couldn't enter the BIOS to check because the ON/OFF button on the computer has just come unsoldered (yeah, it’s taken a beating...) by the way, if you have a trick to start it without this button, I would appreciate it (I think a bypass shouldn't be too complicated to do, but I still have a bit of a fright to launch “by talent” in such cases, since I don't have much of it...
