Good evening to you!

I want to make a small video where I will include some slow-motion shots. But to buy the best equipment and make the right settings, I just need some information.
I would like to know if someone could explain to me the difference between "FPS" and "MBPS" for filming. How much is needed for a smooth slow-motion?
Thank you in advance!

Hello,
Many consider that the higher the fps (frames per second), the smoother the image is. This is a simplistic and inaccurate view: let's take the example of cinema, which is at 24 fps (the image is smoother than video at 50/60 fps). Why? There are other factors to consider, including video format, compression rate, type of compression, etc. A video recorded at 50 fps in AVCHD at 18 Mbps will be less smooth than if it is filmed at 25 fps at 25 (or more) Mbps.
If the goal is to perform slow motion during editing, it is better to opt for a high fps during shooting.

The bitrate is dependent on the video format; for example, in AVCHD, the normal rate is 25 Mbps.
When a device offers several recording modes, for example, AVCHD at 28 Mbps, 24 Mbps, 18 Mbps, 9 Mbps, always choose the highest bitrate.

The slow motion created with software varies depending on the software. No entry-level software allows for good slow motion as it lacks an essential feature: interpolation of intermediate frames. Some professional software (Adobe Premiere Pro CC) has an additional function: time remapping, which provides better flexibility.

Thank you for your response!
I shoot with a DSLR, ideally what format should I prioritize to film with the best possible quality? Both in terms of fps and mbps.

What recordings does your device offer (see the manual) or the reference of the camera?
