Hello,
I am looking for a mass storage driver for my HP Pavilion zv 5000 (exactly zv 5327EA) for an IDE Hitachi hard drive. Do I need the exact reference and name of my motherboard? If so, which software should I use in ISO format? I haven't installed an OS yet in order to install Windows 7 Pro 32-bit which is asking me for a mass storage driver.
??
Thank you and best regards.

Hello and thank you very much for your position:
“If I understand the situation correctly, you are trying to install Windows 7 on the hard drive and at that moment you are informed that a mass storage driver is missing…”: exactly.
“Do you see the hard drive appearing in the window that asks ‘Where do you want to install Windows’?”
answer: no
“By the way, is the hard drive you physically installed in the machine detected in the BIOS? Does it appear in the boot priority list?”: no: Hard drive not detected in the BIOS.
“The message you are talking about concerning the drivers, is it of the kind…? Knowing this will already give us a good idea. I assume you do not even see the hard drive when installing the OS” : exactly
The problem is that when choosing the installation location for Windows, the computer cannot find it and tells me that the mass storage driver is missing. I do not see the disk during installation at that moment.
“Prioritize checking the BIOS: check if the hard drive is detected there.
“If the hard drive is not there, adjust the hard disk drive in its socket and check again in the BIOS. If the hard drive does not appear, we might consider updating the BIOS.”
it is indeed the hard drive that is first for booting, however, there is no detection of the hard drive and therefore no reference to the hard drive under the hard drive submenu. updating the BIOS might be a solution, but I do not know how to do that. The hard drive is well secured and properly installed but still not detected.
“If the hard drive appears in the BIOS…”
the drive does not appear in the BIOS.
maybe the IDE jumper position? what is it for?
I am more than happy to respond to guide you..

Nevertheless, don't forget to test what I suggested regarding the drivers based on the type of storage controller. Let me know what you observe (even if the BIOS does not detect the HDD).
As for the configuration in the BIOS, please check if it is set to AHCI (normally under MAIN > Configure SATA) or IDE and do a cross-test by changing it. The names vary depending on the respective BIOS version. If you want, please post screenshots. In any case, you'll need to look for it under SATA configuration.
Checking the jumper settings would be a good idea (if the HDD is IDE). Pay attention to whether they are set to slave or master. Here's an article that provides useful details http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=D9NMCV .
@james71, has this HDD ever worked in this laptop? Does it spin? Is it still functional and where did it come from? What is the capacity of this HDD? Could there be restrictions on the maximum capacity for this laptop?
Another possible idea would be to see if a Linux Live CD detects the HDD.
Looking forward to hearing from you :)
