Hard drive recognized, but formatting required

Hello,

My external hard drive (Toshiba 500GB) is recognized by my computer, but it asks me to format it; this happens on all the USB ports of my laptop. I have also tried it on other computers, and I have restarted my computer without success.
I would like to know if there is a way to recover the data knowing that it was working perfectly the day before.

    Hello,

    With the command prompt "cmd.exe" (search in the start menu for CMD)

    Launch cmd.exe as an administrator by right-clicking on it -> Run as administrator

    Enter the command CHKDSK /R /F X:

    Replace X with the letter of the failing drive.

    Let me know if it gets better afterwards.
