Hello,
Two days ago and yesterday, I tried to perform the Anniversary update.
The first time, I completed it, but the screen remained stuck on a black screen with a white loading circle at the bottom. It updated all night, and the next day it was still at that stage, so I turned it off using the power button (I know that's not recommended) and it restarted without having completed the update.
The second time, the update started around 4 PM, and the next day at the same time AFTER 24 HOURS it was still at the same stage, that is, the black screen with the loading wheel. Unfortunately, my father had to turn it off and then turn it back on because he needed it.
Once again, no update was registered.
I am currently downloading the update again, and I'm still at the W10 assistant stage.
If someone could tell me why it's taking so long (as it's inconvenient not to be able to use it for a while, especially for my father) and if there is a way to remedy this (although I don't really believe it), that would be great.
Thank you in advance for your responses!

hello.
If I were you, I wouldn't stress over this update..
after three attempts with the same result, it means it will continue like this with every attempt, until the pc no longer starts at all and gets stuck in automatic repair (a typical scenario for w8.1 and w10)..
https://download.microsoft.com/download/0/4/7/047889D0-578C-4A44-A38F-7F30A6CB3809/current-version/Windows10Upgrade28084.exe

- you can create a w10 installation media using the official iso and launch the upgrade directly with it.
- otherwise you can use this software, which will also update the pc.
https://download.microsoft.com/download/0/4/7/047889D0-578C-4A44-A38F-7F30A6CB3809/current-version/Windows10Upgrade28084.exe
- afterwards you can do a clean install, which requires reinstalling apps, games, and software. ultimate solution, but the safest, fastest, and especially makes the pc as stable as a Swiss watch..

I don't think the wait will be worth it...
unfortunately, the scenario will repeat indefinitely...
on my second PC, I tried to believe in this upgrade.
it took me 5 attempts to get there...
by forcing it.
and the result?
the PC crashed on the first reboot for the graphics driver installation.
black screen. rebooting in a loop, all sorts of error messages, I must have had 4 different ones...
and so a complete reinstallation... which solved everything.
whereas on my first PC, I didn't even wait for the update, I downloaded the ISO, and did a direct clean install.
in two hours the PC was operational and today it's like a Swiss watch, 300% satisfaction.. ;)

Oh yes, I can assure you it has been released. On the day of the upgrade release, I already reinstalled it on 5 PCs.
The ISO is available at this address:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO
via the Media Creation Tool.
Make sure to select the same version as your PC.
Otherwise, you'll have a licensing problem, and thus W10 won't be activated....

I’ll need you to take screenshots at worst, just to know where we stand; I wouldn’t want us to make an irreversible mistake due to a misunderstanding.
For the media creation tool, did they ask you to choose, or did you get the automatic selection based on your installed system? Personally, that’s what I got.
But concretely, as of now, the 3.2 GB ISO has been downloaded.??

OK for now I can't give you any screenshots but no no ISO file has been created (??), I'm really struggling with this, I just ran the MEDIACREATIONTOOL, I clicked on "Upgrade this PC" and then everything pretty much happened on its own.
But no file of 3.2 GB has been created, that's clear.
I don't know where I messed up.

It's because you chose the upgrade; that's why it's crashing unfortunately.
Otherwise, you can try this, apparently it works better, I haven't tested it personally.

If it's still a failure, we'll try another method.

The ISO has already finished downloading.??
The ISO file will be downloaded to the Downloads folder on the PC.
For the USB stick operations, we will leave it in the Downloads folder and then you can transfer it to an external hard drive, to always have it on hand.
And for your USB stick, it needs to be at least 4 GB.
And make sure to back up what's on it, we will format it ;)

Yes, downloading is better, that way it is directly accessible.
Formatting means deleting all data from a hard drive or a USB stick.
By formatting, you can also change the format; it's a bit more complex, you can switch from a RAW, NTFS, EXT4, Fat32 format.
Each format has distinct specifications, and some formats are unknown to Windows.
Notably EXT4, the format used by Linux.

The next step, we prepare the USB stick.
So you plug it into the PC, of course.
Right-click on the Windows logo at the bottom left.
You select "Command Prompt (Admin)"
In the black window, you type.
diskpart
You confirm with the Enter key on the keyboard.
you type
list disk
Confirm with Enter.
And you give me the result please.
Normally your USB stick is disk 1
Disk 0 is always the internal hard drive of the PC.

Confirm with enter.
format fs=fat32 quick
Confirm with enter.
assign
Confirm with enter.
If there are no error messages.
You type
exit
Confirm with enter.
And you close the black window.
But make sure to keep your USB stick plugged in, we're not done yet!!

- So now, you go to your downloads folder.
- You right-click on the iso file that should be 3.2 Go.
- You choose the option "Mount."
- The iso will be decompressed, and a new window will open.
- You select all the files and folders by right-clicking. Copy.
- And you paste it into your USB stick.
- Let the transfer go smoothly; it might take a little while.
And your key will be ready to use.
We will try various manipulations to upgrade to Windows 10.
No worries ;)
Except that my phone is almost out of battery; I will be back around 8:30 PM.
Oh yes, but that's not it.
Power 2go is software.
It's your parents who installed it.
Close this software.
We'll do it differently.
I'm just afraid your USB stick might need to be reformatted; if it has a different drive letter, I think all our settings are gone.
Do you have decompression software?
WinRAR or 7-Zip?

Re.
So now you're going to plug in your USB stick.
Turn off the PC.
Tap F12 or (if F12 doesn't work, try Esc) while you start the PC. (You need to be quick, W10 starts up very fast).
You should see a menu offering you which device to boot from.
You'll have the internal hard drive of the PC, your USB stick, and the DVD drive.
So you'll choose your USB stick
If you have two entries
- UEFI USB Boot
- USB Boot
You choose UEFI USB Boot.
And the USB stick should theoretically boot.
Once the USB stick is booting, let me know..

can you host the images here please

there must be a bug, I can't enlarge the image, so I can't see it very well...

yes, you need to redo the operation via the command prompt.
selecting disk 2.
then you extract the ISO with WinRAR, and you copy and paste it onto the USB drive, and then we try again.
if you have any doubts, let me know.

So once again the computer didn't recognize the USB key. I have the same message as the photo I sent you earlier.
Actually, when I press F12 I get another message whether I hit Enter (and the computer starts normally) or I press Escape and there’s the message with the two choices Realtek so not the USB key.
I think there’s an issue with the key.
I’m waiting for your reply.

- turn off the pc.
- press Esc (if that doesn't work, you'll redo the test with F2)
- you should enter the BIOS.
- once inside, we'll look at different points.
- let me know when you're there

Are you sure this won’t take me to an earlier version of Windows and that it will properly update to Redstone?

Should I force shut it down? Should I click on close and then turn it off, or can I turn it off directly? I'm sorry for all these ridiculous questions, but I'm so afraid of messing things up and crashing everything... :'( I get way too stressed when I do unknown computer stuff.

copy the files to the USB drive.
then unplug it and plug it back in (it's a precaution to make sure everything is in order).
and you run the setup.
and we'll see how it goes.
no worries :)

OK thanks, I'm currently looking for updates. I remember that cursed little purple window that never led to anything. I hope this time will be different, even though I'm having a hard time believing it... I'll keep you posted later (in my opinion, don’t be surprised if my computer pulls the black screen with the endless loading wheel again. Crappy update haha) See you later :)

Well, we are back to my black screen and the little white wheel not spinning smoothly.
Goodbye.
But actually, is this part of the installation normal, and it's just the time it takes on my computer that is absolutely abnormal, or should this loading not exist?

it's really weird because I actually thought WINDOWS 10 was working very well, on the contrary.
I have my keyboard, mouse, speakers, and USB drive connected as peripherals.
I have free Avast as antivirus (and there's no need to invest in a paid one, we haven't had any virus or malware issues since we've had it).

Sometimes we find that it's working really well, but there’s still something that’s not right, but we can’t see it.
So no devices that could cause issues.
All antivirus software causes problems for migration.
On both my computers, I had a problem.
Impossible to reinstall the antivirus.
And on the other computer, impossible to reactivate my license.
So for safety, you’re going to disable Avast.
Don't worry, Defender (the built-in antivirus of Windows 10) will start automatically.
You’ll need to wait for it to update, or you can do it manually.
And then you'll do this little operation for me.
