Very long update

Hello,
My computer is currently updating.
I've been stuck at 54% for over 2 hours. I didn't think it would take this long. However, it seems to be processing, the icon in the center is "spinning".
I was working on an important file. Given how long this is taking, I'm afraid of losing everything... and on top of that, I can't work.
What should I do??? Can we stop the update?

    The update has progressed... Since 1 PM (it's 8:30 PM), I'm at 75%... it's very long...
    Will I lose any data???

      I started the same update yesterday at 12 PM, and today at 11 AM I am at 99% (and have been at 99% for almost 4 hours now)... This is very worrying.
      Fortunately, my MSI Titan can handle being on for 24 hours like this without overheating... But it's starting to really concern me. I don't know at what point I should start giving up on the idea of getting an update.
