Hello,
I own an ASUS R511L laptop, which has a "basic" Intel Core i3 4030U processor.
The base frequency of this processor, which is 1.90 GHz, is a bit too slow for me.
I also have another laptop, a Packard Bell that is 5 years old, which won't start anymore, but has an Intel Core i5 processor from that time, with a much higher frequency. Since it won't start, I can't retrieve the reference for this processor.
I have two questions:
- First, can I remove the processor from my ASUS laptop without damaging it, and without it being too complicated?
- Second, can I replace the current processor with another 5-year-old laptop processor, and would this replacement be useful?

Hello, unfortunately the core units are soldered onto the motherboard so it's impossible to change them.
For your old PC, if the processor is not soldered, you can replace it with a processor that accepts the same socket and the same chipset.
Check out this website: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/
You can use a software like AIDA64 to find out all of that.
