Hello,
I am based in the United States. I am looking to access TV programs in France through a Free Box. I think it is the only way to be able to watch French television with all the channels.
I have a friend who has a Free Box and he can help me connect.
However, I have no idea what procedure to follow to connect.
Is there a tutorial somewhere that explains the configuration of the Free Box? Or does anyone already have a shared Free Box that I could access to test?
Thank you,

As long as we have a permanent internet connection, the best solution remains the VPN. I have tried proxies, maxtv, livestation and many others, but I had to regularly adapt to the new changes from streaming sites. Today, thanks to the VPN, I manage to have a French IP address. With this address, I can watch TF1 live, FR2, 3, 4, 5 on Playtv. I have tried several solutions online and have settled today on jcvpn.com for €4 per month; I have no bandwidth limits.
There are several VPN offers online, some even provide test accounts. For those still looking, just search on the net. But browse the forums because some offers are far from what they claim. Having been disappointed several times by these offers, I don't even know how long I will stay with my current VPN provider.

I just subscribed to FrenchyTV and it's the best way I've found to access French channels from abroad! I can watch the channels directly on my TV, just like in France, with 17 channels live and in real-time American hours.
Even though it may seem a bit pricey, it's really like French TV as if you were there. I tried lebouquet.tv but the channel selection was limited, so I unsubscribed.
I recommend checking out the offer on the website! www.frenchytv.net

debutante66, read more carefully before responding off the mark :-)
Chalde is abroad, so he is NOT going to get a subscription.
He wants to connect remotely to a friend's Freebox who already has a subscription.
Unfortunately, Chalde, I have the same problem, I would like to connect to my own Freebox from abroad, but the Freebox does not yet accept direct remote connections from an external computer.
For now, the only way to watch Freebox TV from abroad is to retrieve the TV stream on a machine connected locally to the Freebox (with VLC for example), then allow your machine in the US to connect to your friend's local machine to read the stream.
It's quite complicated, requires a fairly high network bandwidth and requires that your friend's machine is always on...
Maybe the new personal TV service will provide a solution to the problem... Good luck...

Hello Chalde,
It's been a year since I've been watching French TV on my PC here in Canada. My son, who is in France, has a Freebox HD and is subscribed to multiposte (it's free, info here https://www.free.fr/adsl/television.htmlmultiposte/). You will need to buy a Slingbox (http://www.slingmedia.com/, PAL version; I bought mine on eBay from an Irish seller (here's a link http://cgi.ebay.ie/New-Sling-Media-Slingbox-SB150-110-Watch-TV-Anywhere_W0QQitemZ300179195286QQihZ020QQcategoryZ109016QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). The multiposte will allow you to watch one channel while your friend watches another (it doesn't work for TF1, M6, and W9 due to rights issues). If your friend doesn't have multiposte, you'll have to watch the same channel as him.
You'll find a description of the Slingbox here: http://www.planetenumerique.com/+La-Slingbox-regardez-vos-appareils-0369+.html
If you have any questions, feel free to write to me.

Hi,
I am based in Montreal and I bought a Slingbox Solo here, which I sent to France.
My father connected a TNT decoder to it, it works but I have remote control issues, the decoder is from br...co de..t and it's a Eurosat Performer, I can't find the code or the clone code that could operate it.
However, I have a question, is there a built-in TNT decoder in your Slingbox PAL?
If so, do you think if I exchange my Solo for a Pro in Montreal, I will have the built-in decoder?
Best regards
Herve

Hello "sun",
I will be going to the United States soon and I am very interested in the SlingBox.
My parents have a Freebox at home, so I can connect it to a Slingbox.
I would like to know which model of Slingbox you have, apparently the Solo and Pro models are available. The difference is that the Pro model includes what is equivalent to a French TNT tuner. It seems to me that the Pro model is not necessary if we just want to connect the Freebox.
In your message, you mentioned that you could watch a different program remotely (via the internet) than the program that the person with the Slingbox connected to the Freebox is watching, thanks to multi-screen viewing.
But Free's multi-screen only works when watching TV via the internet (with VLC, for example), meaning that only one person benefits from the Freebox decoder for TV, and others can watch it via the internet on their computer connected to the Freebox. So I don't quite understand your setup; indeed, from my interpretation, you in Canada have access to all the channels from the Freebox while the person in Paris is watching TV online through the multi-screen. So this person in Paris cannot watch TV on a "real television". And in this case, you should have access to TF1 and M6 since you are controlling the Freebox bouquet remotely...
That seems to me to be the only solution since the SlingBox can only connect to one decoder (in this case, the Freebox box), so what you see from Canada is indeed the Freebox bouquet with TF1 and M6, and it is the person in Paris who is watching TV from the multi-screen, without TF1 or M6.
Additionally, does your virtual remote allow you to access all functionalities (program guide, recordings, ...)?
I would be very grateful if you could clarify this for me...
Wishing you an excellent weekend,

Hello planeto845 and jphi34,
I thought the answer to your questions regarding multiposte is clear here https://www.free.fr/adsl/television.htmlmultiposte/
“Multiposte: what is it?
It is the possibility offered to Free users, who have access to the television service and own a Freebox V3, V4 or HD, to watch television on their computer screen in addition to their television screen.
This service requires downloading and installing the VLC mediaplayer software on your computer to function.
Note
The service allows for dual use: multiposte and multichannels. Indeed, two channels can be watched simultaneously on your computer, which can receive a maximum of eight TV channels if you have a Freebox V4 or HD, and three channels for the V3. The multiposte service works independently of the television service. It is therefore possible to watch television simultaneously on your computer and on your television. “
Unfortunately, I cannot provide you with more details on this subject. However, I asked my son to get in touch with you to respond. He is the one who did the installation. I only ordered the Pal version of the Slingbox Classic on e-Bay, which was delivered to him from Northern Ireland.
Regarding the remote control, only the buttons from 1 to 9 work; beyond that, you have to use the up and down arrow. That is, if I want to watch TV5 Monde, for example, which is on channel 151, I have to press the up arrow nearly a hundred times to get there. I contacted Slingcommunity.com to see if they can find the necessary codes to make the remote control work properly. If you speak English, you can ask your questions on the forum here https://www.slingbox.com/error/404?item=%2fget%2fkb-2000296&user=extranet%5cAnonymous&site=www-slingKB
Another solution, if you do not have multiposte, would be to connect the Slingbox to a TV that family/friends in France watch very little.
Best regards
Soleil

Hello,
I would like to test the Slingbox (I live abroad and I plan to set it up in France at my parents' place).
Can someone help me?
Moreover, I read here ( http://www.commentcamarche.net/forum/affich 3343071 regarder freebox sur internet de l etranger ) that you cannot watch TF1 / M6 / W9.
Is this a limitation of the Freebox as a TV receiver? I plan to connect the Slingbox to the TNT (the Pro model is equipped with a tuner).
Thank you for your feedback!

For anyone looking for a way to watch French channels abroad, I highly recommend checking out the website www.frenchytv.net!
I subscribed to the service a month ago after a long search to find a way to watch French channels; it's really inexpensive, so I canceled the Dish package I had subscribed to.
After subscribing, I received a device that I connected to the internet and then to my TV, and now I can watch 17 French DTT channels live and at American time!

Hello Alexandre,
FrenchyTV is dead! The only service worth it is Eurostream, and it's from Montreal!
I've been subscribed for 6 months and it gives access to the best channels directly on the TV with a set-top box, or on a PC, or even on an iPad.
You can watch live or catch up on shows that have aired on demand.
Plus, with Eurostream there's no need to wait 24 hours like with M6 Replay; the show is available live or for replay right after it finishes.

What is your friend's internet connection? Because if he is not on unbundled, there is a good chance that the upload he can provide you will not be sufficient for you to watch TV.
Je pense avoir une solution pour vous, jetez juste un œil à SlingBox sur http://www.slingmedia.com

Hello,
On my end, I'm having a big issue with Freebox + Slingbox...
- Freebox v5 with CPL version + Freebox HD (v2).
- Slingbox SOLO and Slingbox PRO, both PAL.
No matter how I connect them, I get a black and white image, impossible to get color. When connecting the Slingbox to a Numericable Cablebox or another device, I have color.
The problem seems to come from the Freebox HD v2. Has anyone experienced this issue, or been able to solve it?
Thanks

hi, The only way to watch freebex abroad is to use the slingbox solo or pro. It's up to you to choose which one based on your budget and usage. http://fr.slingbox.com/ here is the link.

Good evening everyone.
Living in the United States and also in charge of a large French association here, I have a question for the participants:
1) Apparently, the Slingbox only works with Wi-Fi for the iPhone, so no Slingbox when we are on a 3G network, which is the case for many people?
Thank you for your responses!

Hello,
You are absolutely right about the Slingbox,
I am working on the development of a website that broadcasts a package of French television channels dedicated to French expatriates as well as Francophones. I suggest you check out this offer at http://hubb-tv.com/, we should soon integrate an EPG with IP code geo-localization. If you would like to try this service, please feel free to contact me at orevej@hubb-tv.fr, I would be happy to validate an account for you so you can test this offer. We offer a real cinema package with a set of channels broadcasted in GMT +1 and GMT -5...
Best regards.

Honestly, I don’t really see the point of watching TV =/ (and it’s been a long time since I stopped), you can find infinitely more things to watch on the Internet than on television.

In the face of climate change, isn’t it time to react?

Hello
if I understand correctly, I live in Montreal and my parents are in France with unlimited internet and TV from the SFR operator.
1/ If they connect the Slingbox to the TV modem, will I be able to watch TV here in Montreal??
2/ Can I get more explanation because I don't understand how it works and through which network I can access French channels?
Thank you in advance
have a nice evening

1/ indeed.
2/ the Slingbox connects to the Internet network and streams. It sends the video retrieved from the TV decoder over the internet, and you can access this video from anywhere in the world. For this, when the Slingbox connects to the internet, an account must be created with Slingbox. This account contains the information needed to locate the SlingBox on the global Internet network. So when you want to watch the video, either your PC uses software (Slingplayer desktop, freeware) to connect to the account and then display the video that the SlingBox sends, or you use the browser version: you open Internet Explorer and go to the Slingbox website. There, you log into your account and the video appears in Internet Explorer (or Mozilla). Hi Montreal 12.
I live in Longueuil and I use Eurostream.
It's really good because you can watch TF1, M6, Canal+ and other channels whenever you want, either live or catch up on all the shows that have aired since they record them for you. I used to struggle before lol and now it's over!
I think you can order online at store.eurostream.tv or call their guy, he's cool.
You can find the number on their site, I think.
Before it was a mission to watch soccer games in crappy streaming. Now the quality is as good as in France.
See you!

Salut, je suis à Paris, j'ai une Slingbox avec des chaînes françaises, italiennes, allemandes et Al Jazeera Sport, et j'aimerais faire un échange TV avec vous si vous voulez.
The best solution for those who can buy an Amazon Fire Stick for $39.99 on Amazon and install the app "Kodi" ex Xbmc. And you could install and watch all the movies and TV from around the world live, including TF1, M6, Canal.... All even the paid adult channels.
Kodi is completely legal "for now". Only 2 conditions: have a good internet connection and the TV must have an HDMI port for the Amazon Fire Stick. The other solution for those who watch TV on their computer is to install the Kodi software directly on the computer. After that, certain configurations or addons must be installed in Kodi depending on what you want to watch.
There are plenty of tutorials on Google. For Canadians and French speakers, there is a great community that explains everything! Libertv.me step by step. I have been living in the USA for 4 years and I watch free French TV on my TV thanks to the Amazon Fire Stick in HD and live. At first, it was really funny to see Jean Pierre Pernault do his 1 PM news at 7 AM Florida time, but you get used to it, and then you can rewatch everything in replay.
Back then, I would buy, install Kodi and sell a lot via eBay. There must surely be Amazon Fire Sticks on eBay with Kodi and pre-installed channels.
