Hello,
I'm trying to connect an ACER laptop with built-in wifi running Windows Vista to the shared network of my residence... I get a message saying: "The saved settings on this computer for the network do not match the required configuration for the network."
I suspect there may be an incompatibility with Windows Vista... Can someone help me??
Thanks in advance and happy holidays to those who are taking them.

The solution to this problem is that the message "The parameters saved on this computer for the network do not match the configuration required for the network" appears because the network is already saved on your computer and you are trying to connect to the same network with different parameters. You need to go to Start / Control Panel / Network and Sharing Center / Manage Wireless Networks / and delete all the networks from your list, then restart the computer. After that, you will access your modem interface and change the name of your network (SSID) and the broadcast channel if the signal is weak. Then go to Start / Connect, choose your network, click Connect, and enter the WPA security key preferably, and it will work.
GOOD LUCK

HERE IS THE EASIEST AND MOST EFFECTIVE SOLUTION:
1° In "Start" > "Control Panel" > "Network and Internet" > "Network and Sharing Center", WITHOUT BEING CONNECTED WITH THE ETHERNET CABLE, delete the network you are interested in, which in principle is the Livebox or others...
2° You reconnect your ETHERNET cable to get internet access.
3° In the Livebox communication interface that you will find at the address 192.168.1.1, go to "Wireless Network" (for those who are stuck at the Login, try "admin" and "admin" for both fields).
4° In "Security," at the bottom, choose "None"... Yes Yes, you read that right, NONE! (neither WEP nor WPA)
However, you cannot leave your Livebox accessible to all your neighbors, which is why there are 2 more steps:
5° In "Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "Command Prompt," type "ipconfig /all" (without quotes and with a space before the slash, it's not a mistake on my part). This will allow you to retrieve your PC's MAC address, which is unique and will never change for the life of your computer. (those who want to point out that they have a PC and not a MAC, please refrain, that's a silly remark! :-) ) This address looks like this: 00:1a:8b:ea:9e:14
6° In the Livebox communication interface, still at 192.168.1.1, stay in "Wireless Network" and enable MAC filtering. Then, enter your MAC address, asking the Livebox to accept connections only from your computer.
DON'T FORGET TO "APPLY"!
Thus, you will see your "Unsecured" network, but nevertheless I guarantee that no other computer will be able to connect to your Livebox, thanks to MAC filtering.
That'll be €50 :D

Sorry Xavier, but I advise people visiting this page not to apply this solution:
Indeed, not activating any security on your wifi is not good at all. You might say "yes, but the router filters my MAC address!" Well, no, your MAC address is indeed filtered but is transmitted in clear on the network, so anyone with a bit of knowledge will recover it and access your network quite easily, in a much more obvious way than cracking WEP keys, which is already quite easy with a simple Google search :D
You might respond again, "but MAC addresses, aren't they specific to a network card?" In theory, yes, however, to make it more practical, Windows simply copies it into a registry key (run -> regedit), so if you modify the right key, you change your MAC address!
There you go, it's better to solve the problem than to bypass it ;)

The problem is an encryption issue... that I just solved
go to Network and Sharing Center
Then connect to a network (list on the left)
Select the desired network then right-click properties
A window 'properties of wireless network XXX appears
Security type: you need to enter Shared (which is not the default option)
Encryption type: If you have the same error as me, it is probably WEP
Network key: Your password 26 characters
Key index: 1 by default
OK
and normally it works

Hello,
I bought an ACER laptop with Windows Vista. I tried to connect it to the internet without success. It recognized my Livebox, but now I have a message that says: "The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the configuration required for the network." I think I entered the wrong WEP key (the letter O instead of the number 0). How can I go back to enter the correct WEP key without having to reformat my PC?
Thank you in advance.

First, you need to ensure that your Wi-Fi communication chip is indeed an Atheros from the AR500 series. Log in as an Administrator. Open the "Control Panel" in "Classic View". Double-click on "System", then on "Device Manager", and then double-click on "Network Adapters". You should see an entry similar to "Atheros AR500.... Wireless Network Adapter". Open your web browser to the site "http://www.atheros.cz/". Find the variant in the Atheros column that corresponds to what is indicated in "network adapter" on your computer. Click on the column that corresponds to your operating system version - probably Vista 32bit. Click on "download". The updated driver is contained in the downloaded .zip archive. Open this archive and extract the contents to a temporary subdirectory, noting the path.
Return to the "Device Manager" and double-click on the entry "Atheros AR500 ...", then click on the "Driver" tab, then on the "Update Driver" button, and then on "Browse my computer for driver software". Enter the subdirectory where you extracted the downloaded driver files from www.atheros.cz in the input box.
Follow the remaining instructions, and after restarting, select the wireless network that corresponds to your WEP or WPA connection. Right-click and select "Properties". Under the "Security" tab, enter the settings corresponding to those programmed in your wireless router. This should correct your problem ...

Thank you to pt88! I had been struggling for several weeks without being able to connect to Wi-Fi. The solution was so simple: change the Atheros AR500 driver! I even considered upgrading to Windows 7 because from there I could connect to my Wi-Fi. Everyone else could connect, by the way, except for me: from iPhone or iPod and even from a Mac!! Just me lollll!!! I first asked Windows to change the driver, but it didn't work, so I did it myself by following pt88's instructions but without downloading from the atheros.cz site because I didn't want to pay for abylon. I found another site where I could do it normally. Thanks again!
Hi,
in my opinion, you misconfigured your network in Vista. For example, you set a WEP key for your network, and you saved that network with a WPA key, for instance, but it could be something else. Did you configure your network manually or did Vista find and configure it?

Hi, thanks for your reply
Vista finds the networks itself, it connects without any problem to unsecured networks but with no secured network even with the codes
I updated the network card drivers by connecting directly with the ethernet cable
and still nothing
aaarrgghhh!!
kisses

So you can try to set it up manually like this:
start -> in the search module type: network center -> click on network and sharing center -> then click on set up a connection or network -> connect manually to a wireless network -> choose your network card if necessary -> and then enter the network name, security, security key, check "automatically connect to this network", test it, if it doesn't work check "connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name"
there you go

20/20. NICKEL CHROME. Well done. The problem is solved. Just don't forget to connect with the Livebox at the time of the connection with the PC. You can indeed keep your PRO username. Know that ORANGE wanted to charge me between 25 and 79 euros for the repair. Can you see the thieves!!! Thanks a thousand times again.
Good evening, my problem is as follows: I have a Windows Vista Basic laptop with built-in Wi-Fi, and for the past month, I have not been able to connect (via Wi-Fi) to my network, where there is a yellow shield with a point! I called 9, who had me do several manipulations that did not work, and they assumed it was the computer's fault. I then called Pack..., who had me do a factory reset, but that didn't change anything. They told me to call 9 again, which I did, and we went through all their procedures again. They confirmed that they could see the laptop's Wi-Fi connection and advised me to uninstall Norton Security, which I did with a software I found online (how to uninstall Norton Security) (I don't know if I deleted everything), but apparently, nothing changed. I want to specify that my network shows (limited local area network). I am a beginner, as you may have understood, and it costs me dearly to find a solution to my problem. If you have a solution, thank you in advance, and please let me know very clearly using terms I can understand. I hope I have explained my situation well. THANK YOU for your understanding.
In my opinion, it's indeed a configuration problem. Otherwise, Windows recognizes all types of security (none, WEP, WPA2 personal, WPA personal, WPA2 enterprise, WPA enterprise, 802.1x) but try changing the security of your Wi-Fi (switching from WEP to WPA or vice versa) and what is your Wi-Fi router?

Hello, I have the same problem as you. Were you able to connect? I followed the troubleshooting steps like a pro, and now I no longer get the message "the settings saved on this computer..." but I still can't connect. Any ideas?
Hello,
I have an Acer Aspire 9303 with integrated Wi-Fi and I can't connect via Wi-Fi, whereas everything works fine with a network cable.
The signal is average even though I'm next to the box.
I've tried a lot of configurations but nothing works.
Thank you for your response, jpm.

I have a problem installing a second Wi-Fi PC. The first desktop works fine, the second laptop too, but now we bought an Acer PC and to connect it shows me "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the configuration required for the network." I have tried everything - the WEP key is correct and I have an "excellent" signal. If you have a solution.........thank you in advance.
Hello there,
I don't know if I'll be able to help you, but I often have this issue: my second laptop (on Vista) doesn't always connect to the wifi network!
What I do is unplug my box (the one connected to the phone) and plug it back in. Then my wifi works perfectly. It's a recurring problem.
I hope this sheds some light. Good luck.

Same kind of problem: I have an Acer laptop with built-in Wi-Fi running Vista, a recurring issue when trying to connect it to a 9 box via Wi-Fi, knowing that I already have another PC connected via Ethernet (which works perfectly, PHEW). I also called Neuf, and they had me mess around in the network and sharing center with no results. (this was after I bought a Wi-Fi card and a Wi-Fi dongle from Neuf) I could pick up the neighbor's live box with my laptop, but not my 9 box with its Wi-Fi card. The problem remains unresolved, but that's not why I'm here... ^^
The most urgent problem right now is the shared Wi-Fi connection in a residence, so with my laptop running Vista with built-in Wi-Fi on which I've still installed (following advice from quite a few people) a Wi-Fi dongle that works very well.
The issue is as follows: I detect the residence's Wi-Fi network, I connect to it without it asking me for a code (which is strange), but it displays a successful internet connection!! But of course, when I launch a page, nothing loads: connection error.
Has anyone ever encountered this problem? Has anyone resolved it and can shed some light on it???
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
The Neuf box uses the same type of security as the Livebox. Normally, if the Wi-Fi network is visible to Vista, you need to find the WEP key if Neuf has pre-configured the Neuf box for Wi-Fi. The key is on the box or in a letter. When you see the network, you should right-click, go to properties, and choose the encryption (WEP or WPA). If it’s WPA, it should be TKIP. You can usually recognize it by the format of the key. At my place, it appears as unsecured, just like it does for you apparently. In this case, theoretically, you just need to go to the Neuf box and press the button with a lock on it: the Neuf box should blink (its LEDs). Then press connect on the PC in the network center. Normally, that should work. But from experience, many people have issues with the Wi-Fi from the Neuf 4.
Good luck

Hello,
I have a desktop computer connected to my Freebox via an Ethernet cable and everything is fine because I have no difficulty connecting. However, every time I connect with my Acer laptop via Wi-Fi, my desktop computer gets disconnected. This doesn’t prevent my phone and my TV, which are also connected to my Freebox, from working. The problem only occurs with my computer.
Can someone help me?
Thank you

Hello everyone,
I think some of you are still encountering the mentioned problem, namely the message "the settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the configuration required for the network."
On my end, I managed to solve this issue with an Inventel model Livebox by changing the configuration of the Livebox, accessible via the IP 192.168.1.1 > Configuration > Advanced > Wireless. There, I changed the default setting "WPA or WEP security" to "WEP only." The Livebox automatically resets, and after about a minute, it's good to go.
Then, you need to put the Livebox in association mode (button 1 on the side) and connect by selecting WEP security and entering this WEP key (written on the bottom of the Livebox). Normally, it works.
Good luck!

Hello,
I just bought a second Acer laptop (Vista) that I want to connect to Wi-Fi. I have another HP laptop (XP) connected to Wi-Fi. My question is the following: do I have to repeat the same process as for connecting the first one? Or can I use the same connection? The first connection was done by the hotline and I don't remember how they did it. Thank you for your help.

Hello, I have a problem with my Toshiba PC. I can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi, but since yesterday, I keep getting a message saying that Windows Explorer has stopped working, so the internet page gets stuck on Google and nothing happens. I check the task manager and I see a lot of messages saying that the internet has stopped working. What should I do?
