Hello,

For a while now, I can no longer access the Windows Update settings; the window opens and closes immediately. When I use the troubleshooting utility, Windows says it has fixed the bug, but it comes back right away. I also feel like it has been a very long time since I received any updates..

Configuration: PC: Toshiba Satellite I've forgotten the super long serial number
Processor: Intel Core I5-5200U CPU 2.7 GHz
RAM: 4 GB
System: 64 bits
Chipset: Intel HD graphics 5500

Hello

What is your default antivirus and firewall protection?
Best regards

Computing is just a tool, like a brush or a pencil.
Avoid those so-called free repair software, they have no major utility. The best tools are Dos and Powershell..

I disabled all Windows protections (security center, Windows Defender, etc.), because in addition to eating up RAM, they are useless. I had IObit, but I uninstalled it recently.

Re
If you disable all your protections, how do you expect to perform your updates? They are essential because they are linked to your Windows. It's normal that you no longer have updates, and even less protection. Your RAM consumption isn't due to Windows and its peripherals because I see 4 GB, which is sufficient to run Windows.
By the way, which version of Windows is it?
Best regards.

Windows 10 Home, and it's mainly that, for no reason, sometimes Windows Defender would take up 90% of the CPU for several minutes, and I'm a big gamer, so...

Hello

As long as you don't revert your default protections, you won't be able to make your updates, and I believe it really needs them, even being a heavy player, and this problem doesn't stem from your standard protection ~(160 MB), but probably from the games that need a lot of resources in my opinion.
Conclusion: revert your PC to the default protection settings, and the problem will be resolved. You are the master of your PC, so when you get completely stuck, don’t come complaining.
Best regards
