Good evening,

My problem is the following: after a Windows 8 update, my laptop refuses to start...

Let me explain, when I start it, a message appears under the Lenovo logo. The message is: Preparing automatic repair followed by a short loading, after which it goes to a black screen.

No matter how long I wait, it stays on this screen with no signs of loading, no mouse pointer, nothing!

So I would like to know if it's possible to reset the PC without any installation CD, or if there is an option in the BIOS that would allow me to perform a reset.

By the way, this problem occurred after I did some Windows updates, I can't tell you which one... Sorry

      Thank you for your quick response! However, the topic you provided does not match, as I only have access to the BIOS, not the office... =(

      P.S.: I don't mind losing the data saved on the hard drive, so there's no worry about that.

      So I have to reinstall Windows 10? But once Windows 10 is paid, what will I do?

      Isn't there an easier way to reset the PC?

      Your Windows 10 is already activated digitally for your PC, so when it becomes paid, yours will not change.

      You will be able to reinstall it multiple times, it will always be activated.
      It will be paid for new users who have not obtained it for free through the upgrade.

      Ah ok, I see. But right now I’m installing Windows 7 because I found the installation CD for my desktop PC. I inserted the CD into the CD drive, set it as the first priority so that it boots from it instead of the hard drive.

      However, once the files are loaded, the cursor appears but nothing happens; the installation doesn't start. Is this normal?

      Could the fact that Windows 8 is still installed cause a problem?

    look next to the power outlet
    you probably have a little black button. press it while the computer is off. until it turns on. you have access to the recovery menu

    To remove the GPT
    go to the hard drive and delete everything on it
    there should be only your hard drive left, no more partitions. You format it. Refresh. And there you go

    Thank you both for your replies, I found a post that explains how to remove the "Format" GPT, through this tutorial

    The installation is still ongoing for now, file extraction is at 20% at the moment.

    Well, the installation didn't go as planned... Error message at the end of the installation =(, I'm putting below the photos I took of the BIOS:

      So I set Boot Priority to [Legacy First], and in Legacy I move the CD drive to first?

      And in configuration, there’s nothing to change?

    Well, new error message... When I want to select the partition it indicates that it is invalid, I display the details the message is as follows: Windows cannot be installed on this disk. The hardware of this computer may not support booting from this disk. Check that the controller for this disk is enabled in the BIOS menu of the computer.

    Did I miss something? This is driving me crazy : ' (

      Next to the power button, I indeed have a button that allows me to access a menu; I selected System Recovery, and now it restarts in a loop with this message, and this is what the menu looks like at startup.

    you’re Up, but no one will answer you anymore!
    you converted your HDD according to what I could read, roughly speaking, switched to MBR!
    Very big mistake, you have no OS and no recovery, you will keep restarting into nothingness!
    you need to manage to install:
    -W7 64bit, installable in UEFI, you could have done a dual boot and kept your 2 OS, too late (almost)
    -original W8
    -W10 1511, activatable with a W7/W8 license without going through an upgrade! You have a preinstalled W8 original, right? so no need for a license, you don’t know, and Windows will find it by itself

    you say you are trying to install W7: 
    But right now I’m installing Windows 7 because I found the installation CD of my Desktop PC

    is it a retail version CD?

      Actually, it's the installation CD of my current desktop PC that I'm replying with, but I've realized that it's only compatible with computers where the operating system was installed by LDLC (since I bought my desktop PC on that site).

      So that could be a problem, but I could replace the CD and boot a USB drive instead (with Windows 7 copied on it beforehand).

      But I'm not quite sure how to go about it; does the USB drive need to be configured in a certain way or do I just copy the Windows 7 installation files onto the drive and that's it?

      Hi
      to install W7, you need a license, otherwise you won't be able to activate your Windows!
      if you have what it takes, you create your key with Rufus/Option "mbr for bios and UEFI".
      Format it in fat32, make sure to set your HDD to gpt before installing!

      you can't use installation CDs from another brand's PC, it's not possible!
      it's either the iso or the iso ^^
