How to remove protection from a Word document?

Hello everyone,
I created Word documents on Windows 10, I wanted to send them by email as attachments, but the recipient was unable to open them. I realized they were in docx format and protected. I would like to unprotect them, of course, but how can I do that?
Thank you in advance for your responses.

    In Word 2010 and 2007:
Save the file in .docx format
    Close Word
    Rename the file to ".zip"
    Open the zip with 7Zip
Go to the "word" directory and edit the settings.xml file
    Search for the word "protec"
    Delete from "<documentprotection to="" the="" next="">"
    Save
    Close 7zip
    Rename the doc to ".docx"
The doc should no longer be protected.

Note: A similar trick works in Excel by saving in ".xlsx" format ... :-)</documentprotection>

      Hello,
the settings.xml file opens with IE (even though I use FIREFOX) and I can't modify or delete anything. Help!!!
Any idea on how to allow me to modify it?
      Thank you for your help.
