Cut a video in VLC in the middle

Hola,
I'm a girl a bit lost in computer stuff.
I'm trying to cut a video in VLC in the middle and I really don't know how to do it. I've already tried with the streaming/transcoding assistant but it seems like the video isn't saving anywhere...
Anyway, HELP. Have a good evening!!

    Hello,

    VLC will not work for what you want to do. It is primarily a media player that also offers a function for encoding an entire video.

    To remove part of the video, you need to use video editing software (like MovieMaker, for example, if it supports the file type you have) or software that has this feature, such as VirtualDub (AVI files only), Avidemux (not WMV files unless you re-encode your video) or Freemake Video Converter.

      Thank you very much for your reply, but I'm going to be annoying again..
      I'm on Mac so I don't have access to MovieMaker.. and on iMovie, I feel like the file is not compatible. Apparently, it's an m4v file; does that ring a bell?

    M4V is just a Container just like MP4, AVI, MOV, or MKV for example.
    I’m partly surprised that iMovie doesn't support M4V (you could rename it to MP4) since it's something specific to Apple or Sony but well... I take your word for it ;)

    Avidemux, the Mac version should accept it I think.
    If the interface is similar to that of Windows, leave all the boxes as they are to do a work in copy mode (without re-encoding) except the output format where you have to select MP4 muxer or MP4v2 Muxer.
    Then for cutting, go to Edit (if it's in French) and select the part to be deleted with the markers and click on Delete.

    good evening

    you can definitely cut a video with VLC (view, advanced controls) and save the result in your video folder (with W7).

    The major and prohibitive disadvantage is that you have to record while playing the video and manipulate it in real time ..... so if the video lasts 2 hours, you need to have patience.

    But Avidemux is unmatched (in a better way)
