Hello,
I want to save some old films on my PC (and possibly burn them) that were recorded back in the day with a camcorder on small tapes.
I currently have a Konig Electronic USB Video Grabber - CMP-USBVG6, I installed the driver, and everything works relatively well: I can view the film correctly (sound and visuals).
I can record in WMV format. However, the image is choppy and there is no sound.
If I try to save the film in MPEG 4 or 2 format, I can't record at all (nor view it).
I believe I am using SECAM, but I can't switch it to PAL or NTSC.
I'm on Windows 8.
Does anyone have any suggestions to make this work?
Do you have a FREE video capture software to recommend?
Thank you very much! :)

Analog cassette transfer to PC
Copy VHS or 8mm Hi8 camcorder analog cassettes to PC
(and possibly digital DV)
you need an external box that handles the analog-to-digital conversion hardware
and a USB connection (offloading the processor) to the computer. I recommend reliable and widespread equipment like Dazzle, with the model "video DVD converter"
Generally, the conversion format is mpeg2 720x576 (4GB per hour), which you can use to burn a DVD compatible with all players. In the pack, there is a Pinnacle "Studio" editing software that you can choose to use or not to "arrange" your videos before burning a DVD or saving the files
I want to emphasize that the quality of the result can only be judged on a television screen due to the 4:3 display ratio

there are other brands like USB sticks with 4 wires, but avoid "cheap" products that are a source of headaches judging by desperate messages on the forum
Ps: for a VCR and a SCART output, you may need a SCART adapter with in/out switch and RCA connections for sound and S-video or yellow composite RCA
