listen to messages on my Gigaset answering machine

Hello,  My question is in the title: I have a new landline phone; a Gigaset. I can't listen to the messages on the answering machine even though they are indicated by a red light. I press the envelope as indicated in the user manual and ... nothing happens!!  Thank you for your help!!  Best regards.

Indeed, I apologize... I forgot to mention that it's a Gigaset AS 200. When there are messages and I press the envelope or dial 3103, the line is busy and it hangs up. I imagine I need to configure the answering machine.  Please let me know how to proceed.

An AS200A with answering machine or an AS200? =====>  Where is the flashing red light? on the base? on the handset? Is your telephone device connected to a box? --  It's very difficult to catch a black cat in a dark room. Especially when it isn't there...
