Good evening,

I installed the Windows 10 update and when I click on the icon of my old Civilization III Play the World in my taskbar, a window opens saying "Please log in with manager privileges and try again."

I took out the CD and put it back in, but it still doesn't work.
I tried to solve the problem by changing the settings, but that doesn't work either.

I'm really hopeless with computers; for games with codes, no problem, I've re-entered them, but here, I don't know what to do.

I managed to fix the issue on Windows 7: you need to uninstall the update KB3086255, it works!!

Hello everyone, for those of you who have installed the Windows 10 update, I'm afraid it might deprive you of your usual games because they are doing everything to make things difficult for us. Anyway, for those like me who haven't installed Windows 10, here is perhaps a solution that will put an end to your connection issues with your games and allow you to play. You should know, as I mentioned in a previous message, that the update KB3086255, which is causing us problems, automatically comes back. So to be calm in the future regarding games, go to All Programs at the bottom left, click on Windows Update, view updates, search for KB 3086255, uninstall it, restart the PC, then when there's a request to reinstall this update again, go back to Windows Update, right-click on the update once found and not installed, and HIDE IT. This way it will not reinstall, and you will be at peace. For me, this worked with my COMMAND and CONQUER games as well as AGE of EMPIRES 2 and 3. I hope this will be useful to you, and for those who have installed Windows 10, revert to the previous version if you can to try this out. Happy gaming! Regards, condor59740

  Thank you very much Condor59740, it works like a charm for my old games (BF 1942 and Mafia!!! (Nostalgia, when it grabs you!) In any case, it's not nice of Microsoft to mess up the old games we love so much!

Under Windows 7, I didn't have this KB.
Here's how I solved the problem:
1) command prompt as administrator
2) sc config secdrv start= demand
3) sc start secdrv

Hello,

Right-click on the exe (your game) and select run as administrator.

  It's usually written on the box or on the purchase site like Steam.
  You should check if there might be an update for the game on the publisher's website, for example.

  I had the same problem as you with another game, and I found this as a solution.
  
  How to run your game as an administrator.
  To run your game with administrative rights on Windows XP, follow these steps:
  1. Hold down the Shift key and right-click on the game's executable or shortcut, then select "Run as".
  2. Select the administrator account by clicking on "The following user". If prompted, enter the administrator's username and password.
  
  To run your game with administrative rights on Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click on the game's shortcut on the desktop.
  2. Select "Properties".
  3. Click on the "Compatibility" tab and check the box "Run this program as an administrator" under "Privilege level".
  4. Click Apply, then OK.
  Once these actions are completed, relaunch your game.

I simply "repaired" Win7 or just updated it.
And the issue was resolved.

Thank you for these very useful comments, especially with this update that prevents us from using our games. As for Windows 10, installing it equals not being able to play—at least that much is certain. One must revert to the previous version if they want to use it. The only problem is that this update comes back when you turn off the PC. Can we avoid the updates? That's the question. If someone has the solution to modify these settings, that would be great. And if we can do it, wouldn't it harm the information that the PC has? See you soon.

  Regarding your issue with the games, are you in one of the situations that I've described in my research so you can play normally to games that we can't access without that famous update for which I've provided information to remove it? If not, are you on Windows 10? Because that will be another problem; as they keep throwing new programs at us without considering those who have games, it simply results in one thing: we can no longer play.   you may not have this update if you carefully checked your update feed, but I believe you are on Windows 10, so you fall into the scenario where with Windows 10 you cannot play these games because with Windows 7 and by following what happens on your PC doing what I explained above but since I didn't want to install W 10 because it would penalize me for the games I have Age of Empire 2, 3, Command and Conquer + Red Alert, which I wouldn't have been able to play that’s why I said above to stick with W 7 which was more than sufficient and allowed continued gaming that's all I can tell you because if you have upgraded to W 10 unless you can revert to the previous version W 7 I can't help you as I haven't installed it.
