Hello,

I just installed "Bitdefender Total Security 2015" on my PC.
The infection control scan log indicates that "the system is infected" and there are "522 password-protected files."
To access them, I am asked to "view the log for more details" and to right-click on each of these files to start the scan by entering the corresponding password.
However, the right-click highlights the file but I cannot see any other possible action.

Previously, I had "Avast Internet Security."
It already indicated the existence of these password-protected files, which were not scanned. But nothing else was requested from me.

What should I do to ensure the most comprehensive protection possible?
Thank you

Hello,

Password-protected archives cannot be scanned because they are protected.
The antivirus has no access to them.

The antivirus just informs you, that’s all.
These are not malicious items.

Bitdefender support confirms your statements: I am reassured and I am categorizing everything! Thank you!

"Hello,

Password-protected archives can only be interpreted if one has the password in question; therefore, Bitdefender will not be able to open them for analysis.

Only the application or the user who created these password-protected archive files can open them; once this is done, their extraction will be interpretable by Windows and Bitdefender.

Despite this notification, Bitdefender's real-time protection will always be there to block access to infected files that might attempt to execute on your computer. If any malicious files were to be extracted from such an archive, they would automatically be handled by this sentinel.

Best regards.

Thank you for your quick responses!

With Avast, I let it run since nothing was proposed to me as an action...
But the alert from Bitdefender - "the system is infected" - and the proposed action described above made me concerned.

I will try to discuss it with Bitdefender...

Are you sure you don't have a "real" malicious detection other than those protected archive warnings?

No other alarms had been reported.

I restarted the full scan and the message changed from "infected system" to "safe system" with "520 password-protected files" instead of 522.
Were the 2 missing files responsible for the infection alert???...

@fmartinez: these are not threats, see previous message.
You can send the analysis report via http://pjjoint.malekal.com?

Hello,

If you have a password-protected file, there must be something to hide.
For example, in a WinRAR archive, I made a video on how to remove a password, -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeNn_BjeXHc
BUT be careful, password-protected WinRAR archives can contain viruses. Personally, I use ESET NOD 32, it's certainly expensive but effective.

Best regards.
