Mail app is no longer syncing

Hello,

For the past few days, I've been experiencing an annoying issue with the Mail app for Windows 8.1.
Using a Live account (for websites etc.) and a Hotmail account (work address), neither of these two accounts is syncing anymore! The app constantly displays Syncing.... This means I can no longer receive or send emails! However, on the Outlook.com website, there are no problems.
What can I do to get Mail working again?

Configuration: Toshiba Windows 8.1 with a missing S key, but that doesn't prevent it from being used.

This problem resolved itself this morning (following the installation of updates?).
