DTS playback on non-DTS compatible TV

Question

Hello,

Sorry for the "noob" question, but I would like to know if I connect an external hard drive to the USB port of a Blu-ray player that supports DTS audio format but the TV does not support that format, will the sound pass through?

Currently, I convert my DTS MKV videos to AC3 so I can play my videos by connecting the hard drive to the TV, but I'm tired of converting my files.
If the "Blu-ray player solution" doesn't work, I think buying a soundbar should do the trick?

How to read HD audio tracks (DTS-HDMA and TRUE-HD) on your TV because I can't manage it :(
I connect my external hard drive to my recent LG TV, with movies in HD audio.
My TV is connected via HDMI ARC to my amplifier, which can decode Dolby Atmos and DTS-X, but I can't output DTS-HDMA or TRUE-HD :(
My TV doesn't seem to send the original audio to my amplifier for it to decode...
Any idea?

Hi,

It's the TV that decodes the image and sound, and if it doesn't support DTS, you simply won't have any sound.

The easiest solution is to have a media player that decodes all video and audio formats.
When connected via HDMI, it will decode the file.
So you'll need a player with a USB connection to plug in your hard drive.

An inexpensive option is the WDTV.
You plug your hard drive into it and it works.
It can also be connected to the network with an Ethernet connection.

What if you connect your hard drive directly to your amplifier?

To watch movies on the TV, I leave them on the PC and through the ISP's TV box, I can watch them via the network.

Which ISP are you with?

Since I'm with FREE with the Freebox Revolution V6, I installed Plex Media Server on my PC and from the Freebox, by going to Disk/My disks, I see Plex Media Server and have access to the movies that are on the PC.

No need to connect anything to the TV.
