Connecting a TV headset without disabling the TV speakers?

Many people think that there is no more SCART socket on their TV, especially on Samsung models, however, this brand has put another type of socket on their flat screens that still allows connecting a device with a "real" SCART plug, probably for a supposed space-saving reason???

Samsung has a knack for complicating things!!!

They have opted for a different type of connection, and normally, an adapter is provided for this connection, here’s what it looks like:

You need to look for this Samsung SCART adapter in the TV box, it is included by default.

I would like to clarify one last point, the audio can also be output through the HDMI ARC output, so if you are already using the optical output, you can connect an HDMI cable to the ARC output and connect this cable to an HDMI ARC to RCA converter, but it is essential that the converter is ARC as stated in the Samsung manual (http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201411/20141127124859330/[FRA]NUDVBEUH-1.111-1015.pdf - page 18 and page 19 for optical fiber...)

I had this SCART adapter on the TV, it's theoretically used to connect a VCR.
Currently, it still doesn't work: the sound doesn't come through the headphones. Could this be related to the TV being connected to the VCR? I might be saying a huge nonsense.... to the extent of my knowledge....

solution found, use a mode on the amp like "tape" and assign the optical input to it, then connect the 3.5" jack, then connect the Sennheiser mini jack cable to the front of the amp and there you go, just turn on the amp, the mini jack on the amp and then manually switch in the Samsung menu from sound to AV output and there you go, TV speakers off, amp speakers off via jack and sound only in the Sennheiser.....
if you have the amp, it costs nothing because all the rest (the jacks) are provided with the headphones.....
a bit convoluted but if there’s no simpler way, we make do....
if someone has an easier solution and especially where we can switch the sound from the TV speakers to the headphones with 2 buttons, please explain how :-)

Yes, the TV sound comes out simultaneously and in parallel through the optical output on the UE55HU7500. As mentioned above, when I turn on my amp, I have sound coming from the TV at the same time as I am responding now. To have sound only through the amp, I have to select in the menu tools/speakers selection/audio output and not TV speakers, and then the TV sound is muted, and everything comes out through the amp.
After that, I just plugged the headphones into the amp, which cuts off the sound through the amp's six connected speakers, and it's the headphones that finally receive the audio signal.
After that, yes, using an optical to analog converter with RCA or mini-jack output allows you to compensate for the absence of the amp, and it works perfectly.
I keep this setup; otherwise, I'll have to disconnect the optical fiber from this type of box every time I use the amp, and therefore, I push the problem of plugging/unplugging elsewhere...

Same for me, I need BOTH the headphone output AND the TV speakers
No more headphone output on Samsung, so goodbye Samsung (it was very convenient in an apartment to be able to watch a movie with the sound dynamics of wireless (but not wifi or bluetooth) headphones
However, many models from LG and Sony still have the headphone output with an option to program whether to have (or not) the headphones and the speakers simultaneously

For example, for Sony you do
Press the HOME button, then select [Settings] using the buttons.
Select [Sound] using the buttons, then press the OK button.
Select [Headphone-Speaker Link] using the buttons, then press the OK button.
Select [Yes] or [No] using the buttons, then press the OK button.
Select [Yes] to disable the internal TV speakers' sound when you connect the headphones to it. Select [No] for the sound to be output through both the internal TV speakers and the headphones.

I am facing the same problem: the solution of using the SCART socket to output sound from the TV and send it to the headphones works, but for me, only for the tuner. The sound from the PS3 connected via HDMI does not come out through the SCART...

So I think it's necessary to use the optical output as mentioned above; it's a pity that there's no more conventional audio output (RCA, for example...)
I am using a Samsung UE55HU7500 TV and Sennheiser RS170 headphones.

I hope your thoughts will bring the solution but I don't want to overdo it.... and it's an area where there is no urgency....

I'm sorry for not being able to provide you with this solution earlier; I thought I could find a simpler solution, considering the audio converter was more expensive and I kept it as a last resort.

I think in the future we need to be cautious with the latest generation TVs, especially those that use this SCART adapter. I strongly fear that this issue will become widespread among all TVs that have this type of adapter, particularly Samsung.

The SCART to RCA adapter solution was too simple and didn't cost enough in the eyes of certain brands, which then forced the purchase of an audio converter.

That's partly why I've always been against this brand; they have a way of complicating things. Too much simplicity doesn't suit them; they don't have enough grip on their clientele and are careful not to disclose all the details about their products.

That being said, this is just a personal opinion, but I believe that over time, people will pay more attention to such details when purchasing their devices.

Currently, the majority of people buy based on the design of a product, whereas design won't solve the issues caused by the complication of functions and connections.

With that, I'm glad you found the solution that works best for you.
