Retrieve a file after printing

Hello everyone,

How long can you recover a missing file after printing it?
Is it also the case if the printed file was on a USB stick?
My employer is looking for some tricks, can he recover printed files from a USB stick that he doesn't have? The printing was done on my work computer (Windows 7 pro) several weeks ago.

    Hello, if it is completely missing, he won't find anything except the printout. On a key, it never disappears unless you delete it.

    Certain text editing programs will prompt you to save if you haven't done so after printing and closing; otherwise, it won't find anything.

    This is just a simple Word document and I didn't save anything since it was a private document. That's why I had it on a USB stick. I just printed it on my professional printer by inserting the USB stick into my work computer. As far as I know, I don't think my employer can recover it later... but I would like to be certain.
