Good evening,

I recently purchased an amplified TV cabinet MTV02SOUND that I connected to my TV (LG) via optical cable and an Xbox 360 connected by composite cable (yellow, red, and white).
I would like to play on the console with the image on the TV without sound and have sound from the PC through the TV cabinet without the image on the TV.

Which cable should I use?

    Good evening,

Could you please provide me with the brand and the EXACT MODEL of EACH DEVICE? This is in order to better inform you about the connections to be made; the references are usually indicated on the back of the devices.

P.S.: No indication like "Samsung 102cm", that is not a reference, but rather like this example: "SAMSUNG UE40C5100 - 102 cm"

Regards and thank you for your understanding.

    Good evening,

So, it's not complicated, your TV has 3 HDMI ENTRANCES and we are going to use them, along with the OPTICAL OUT, here’s how to connect everything:

    1) HDMI OUT TOSHIBA <- HDMI CABLE -> HDMI IN 1 TV. (There will certainly be some settings to adjust for video resolution and audio).

    2) HDMI OUT XBOX 360 <- HDMI CABLE -> HDMI IN 2 TV.

    3) OPTICAL OUT TV <- OPTICAL CABLE -> OPTICAL IN FURNITURE.

Here is an image clickable for enlargement to actual size:

No need to make an HDMI connection between the TV and the furniture, the images and sound from the devices will be transmitted via their HDMI connections to the TV and the sound from the devices will be transmitted to the furniture through the TV which will act as a sound relay via the OPTICAL connection between the devices and the furniture.

There will also be audio settings to adjust on the TV for the OPTICAL connection.

And probably on the furniture as well.

Best regards, good connections and good evening ;-)

PS: If there is a built-in menu on the TV furniture, to display it, it will certainly need to be connected to HDMI 3 on the TV, in order to enter the furniture menu to adjust the OPTICAL sound settings, the HDMI connection will only be for that.

But I suppose this is specified in the furniture manual.

Thank you, I will try all of this when I have my 2 HDMI cables

So for the sound from the PC through the cabinet
Will I need the HDMI while also using the optical cable?
But when I have to choose from the list of sources like HDMI 1, 2, etc., which one should I select to have the sound from the PC without the image?

      Sorry, I forgot something

Can I try right away without the console image? Should I adjust the settings for the PC and the furniture?

      Thank you

Not knowing all the products by heart, I suggest you check the manuals for each device.

For the PC, if I remember correctly, you should go to the display settings or the graphics card settings to duplicate your PC screen on the TV.

For the furniture, as mentioned earlier, you have the manual that should explain all of that.

The sound and image from all your devices are transmitted to the TV via HDMI, then it's the OPTICAL connection that does the rest between the TV and the furniture.

Once the OPTICAL is set up on the furniture and the TV, you don't touch it anymore.

Selecting HDMI 1 or HDMI 2 on the TV won't change the OPTICAL connection, it will default.

    ================================================

But if I understand correctly, you only want the PC sound to go through the furniture? Not the image on the TV?

If that's the case, you just need to connect a simple MALE 3.5mm STEREO JACK to RCA (Red and White) cable.

So, plug the JACK into the headphone output of the PC and the RCA (Red and White) into AUDIO IN of the furniture, this way, only the PC sound will go through the furniture.

And if you don't want your PC image on your TV, you unplug the HDMI cable connecting the two.

But in that case, you'll have to reset the sound on the furniture each time you change source, depending on whether it's the XBOX 360 or the PC, but you'll still have to keep the HDMI cable connecting the TV to the furniture to have the sound menu of the furniture visible on the TV.

Honestly, I think the wiring diagram I gave you is the least complicated for future uses, keep the PC connected via HDMI 1 on the TV, and the OPTICAL going from the TV to the furniture, that way, just selecting the HDMI source on the TV will also select the default sound source.

      Yes, I see it's simpler

I'll take a look, but it seems strange to me because when I change the source, the image and the sound change too.

Well, it's logical, you can't have the same images on HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. HDMI 1 is the port dedicated to the PC, so it's normal that the PC display is on the screen, and HDMI 2 is dedicated to the Xbox 360, so it's normal that the Xbox home screen is on the screen.

What did you expect to achieve by switching sources???

        Well, that's the question ^^

I want to use music on my PC through the sound system but without the image on my TV
While playing on the Xbox with the image on the TV but without the sound.

With the given connections, it's doable, since your Xbox is connected via HDMI to your TV, you have the image, so you just need to lower the TV volume to avoid the Xbox sound, and on the sound system, you select the audio source that corresponds to the connection you made with the JACK - RCA cable.

So, on the sound system you do not select the optical source but the one where you connected the RCA.

Here is the more complete wiring diagram:

I've left the optical cable in case you still want to have the Xbox sound on the sound system if you're not listening to music through the PC.

I just saw that the Xbox doesn't have HDMI, but that's fine, I'll stick with component output, it's not an issue.

Tomorrow I'll go buy a Jack-RCA cable to see how it turns out, and I'll let you know the result.
      Thanks anyway ^^

But as you said, the component will work just fine ;-)

Okay for the rest, I'll wait for news tomorrow or Sunday or Monday, it doesn't matter ;-)

And no worries, my pleasure ;-)
