Help for connecting a home theater amplifier tuner

Hello everyone. Here’s my problem: I just acquired an Onkyo HT-S3200 5.1 home cinema AV receiver, and I can’t get any sound out of it. I have a Samsung LCD TV, a PS3, an Xbox 360... (I won’t give you an inventory), and I mainly need help regarding the television. I connected an HDMI cable between the "hdmi in1" port on the receiver and the "hdmi 1" port on the TV. Unfortunately, nothing happens when I switch to the appropriate channel on the TV. I only get a black screen. Is the receiver supposed to transmit video images? What should the proper connection be to simply get the TV sound out of my speakers? There’s no need to mention how lost I am, despite carefully reading the manual. Thanks in advance to everyone who takes the time to respond.
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.5.6

Ok ok then. On my TV, I only have HDMI in (1, 2, 3, and 4). Then on my amplifier, I have HDMI in 1, 2, and 3, and one HDMI out. So do I connect my cable to HDMI 1 on my TV and then to the HDMI out of my amplifier? Or for the TV, is the optical cable enough? Basically, to watch TV with the sound from the amplifier, I don't need an HDMI cable, is that right? For the sound, if I understand correctly, I need to buy an optical cable separately? In any case, thanks.

You need to change the mode of the channel; choose Dolby Pro Logic or equivalent.

    Hello.
1/ The HTS 3200 does not manage audio via HDMI
2/ The HDMI on the TV is ALWAYS an input, not an output
3/ The connections are not adequate
4/ Apparently you haven't assigned the inputs
Connect your devices to the HDMI "in", assign them, and output the signal to the TV via the HDMI "out"
For the TV, you need to connect it via optical:
    - Digital out from the TV to the digital "in" of the amplifier, and then you'll get the sound from the TV.

    Hello, agree with lelandaisa
and do the same for the PS3 (optical cable on the 2nd optical input of the home) otherwise I'm not sure you'll get 5.1 from the TV.

Well, thank you very much. So here it is, I bought an optical cable and here are the connections I made: an HDMI cable from my Neufbox to the amplifier and from the HDMI out of the amplifier to the TV. Then the optical cable from the Neufbox to the amplifier. Everything works perfectly except that I only have the right, left, and subwoofer speakers working. The two small speakers placed behind my sofa do not produce any sound. Is there something special to do to have all five speakers working? Is this mode available depending on the type of TV program? Thanks again.

Ok, but do some devices (like a Neufbox decoder for example) not support 5.1? As for the PS3, I've connected it via HDMI to the receiver, then from the receiver (HDMI out) to the TV, but there's a problem—I only get a pink image with the PS3 menu in the background and, of course, no sound even though I used an optical cable. I'm really lost; by the way, if anyone who knows this stuff well lives around Villefranche-sur-Saône, please get in touch.

To get sound on the home theater from the PS3, you need to adjust the sound output in the PS3 sound settings menu (it's on the left side in the pink background)
    choose optical output, confirm
for video settings, set it to HDMI

to listen to the PS3 sound, set the home theater to optical input 2

for the Neuf box, the signal does not necessarily output in 5.1 but that's okay, leave your home theater on Dolby Pro Logic mode, it should switch automatically when the signal is genuine 5.1

    Hello everyone :)

I have a bit of the same problem as Hemlock, I purchased a HT-S3200 amplifier, a Blu-ray player, and a TV.
So I connected an HDMI cable from the Blu-ray to the amplifier IN and from the amplifier OUT to the TV. The picture works great this way, it looks really good.
The issue is with the sound. For the audio, I bought an optical cable which I connected from the Blu-ray to the optical input 1 of the home cinema, but the sound only comes out of the two rear speakers, nothing from the others...

I have set the home cinema sound on DVD/BD to "opt1" and I don't know what to do now.. I tried the modes A, AB, and B and the sound only comes out when I'm on A (but only from the rear).

If anyone has had this issue and resolved it, I would appreciate the solution, thanks in advance :)

P.S: I saw a reply from Jjpots saying that the system needs to be set to Dolby Pro Logic, I’m not quite sure how that’s done but I’ll check tonight :)

If they make manuals, it’s not just to use paper for fun, even if they’re annoying to read, they’re there for that. If you have no sound anywhere except from the back, it means the rest is not configured (or set up incorrectly).

    Hello,

I’m reaching out because I also have this ONKYO S3200b home theater system, and I have the same issue with the operation of all these speakers.
These speakers only work together when the home theater is properly set up, at least if the 5.1 function is possible.
Indeed, from time to time, you notice that you also have to play around with the "A" or "AB" mode, and to be honest, I don’t quite understand the system from that perspective.
I continuously use the "A" mode because that’s the mode that allows me to have sound in 5.1, so all the speakers working together, while also ensuring that your amplifier is set to Dolby or DTS mode because when these functions are applied correctly, the five speakers (6) along with the sub, work properly.
Now, I’ve looked at the "AB" function and it doesn’t have DTS sound and therefore not in 5.1, but maybe I’m wrong, but first it’s necessary to know what exactly these two functions are for?!
Today, I’m coming to you, the experts, because I can’t figure out how to adjust the subwoofer (which is too loud for me).
Thank you, and I hope those who have this type of home theater can understand it well because I am certain it is a very good product!!! (once properly set up, of course)!!! :)

That's it! Remove the HDMI cable from the TV/amplifier input
for TV sound on the amplifier, buy an optical cable and connect it from the TV "out" to the amplifier "in".
