DVD recorder for VHS

Hello,

So, my computer won't save the VHS tapes from my VCR, despite buying a "so-called" device made for that (3 yellow, white, and red plugs and on the other side a USB port). The software can't get the image in color, nor the sound.
Well, finally my question is, if I buy (second-hand, for example, from Le Bon Coin) a DVD recorder with a SCART socket on the back, could I record my old tapes directly onto the DVD recorder, and then once recorded, could I digitize them...?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 40.0.2214.115

Hello, I have a point of view: recorders have their own specific codecs which are not compatible for burning to DVD or creating MPEG2 720x576 files that work on all players and viewers.
Many Internet users complain about these "cheap" USB sticks but they can't get them to work; I don't know what to think, is it their lack of experience or the poor quality of the hardware?
You can still find combination VCRs with a DVD recorder
that convert VHS tapes to DVD.
    But why complicate things?
I have had a "Dazzle" DVC 107 for a few years, it comes with editing software "Studio" compatible with Windows 7 without any issues.
