Hello,
I have a computer that has been crashing, more or less, for the past 3 years.
Either my screen freezes, goes black and then comes back; or it freezes and stays
stuck with me unable to do anything; or it just reboots directly. Sometimes it even freezes on the blue crash screen... how ridiculous!
I had the same issue with my previous graphics card (also an Nvidia GeForce, but a lower model). The manufacturer replaced it with the one I have now (Nvidia GeForce GTX 670). It worked fine for a few months, then the problems came back inexorably.
In general, I should note that it crashes/freezes (in 99% of cases) within the first hour after turning it on. Once this time has passed, there are usually no more problems. For example, when I turn it on in the morning and then I come back to it in the evening, there won't be any issues.
I also want to point out that I am not doing anything specific when it crashes. It even crashes when it is in sleep mode.
I've already tried many things I found online over this time, but to no avail.
The last thing I have left to try is formatting it, but I need to be able to reinstall Windows afterward, which is complicated (but not impossible).
I'm starting to think that the simplest thing would be to just throw everything away and change it all. But it's horrifically expensive, especially since I believe I have a rather powerful computer.
My configuration:
- processor: i7 CPU 950 3.07ghz
- graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 670
- monitors: PLE2607WS
- RAM: 6go
Does anyone see a solution? Should I resign myself to building another PC?
Thank you very much!!!!
Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 40.0.2214.111

Hi, what brand is your CPU? Asus, Zotac?
I'm having some issues with mine, which is a GTX670 as well.

Hum... There's a good chance that this comes from the power supply being far too low compared to what your PC consumes. Running 24/7 at full capacity (which is dangerous) and unable to handle the slightest spike in consumption, the PC cannot function properly until the demand/capacity ratio stabilizes.
Since all this is a hypothesis, I will ask you to check the status of the power supply while it’s running: if it’s hot and the fan is running at full speed, that’s a bad sign. To go further, look at its performance in Watts and what your PC needs (Google is your friend). Finally, the quality of the power supply may be an issue; a reputable brand and a good efficiency rating are the best guarantees of quality available. A "no-name" power supply made by small Thai manufacturers (I have nothing against them ^^) generally has numerous problems.
Given the price of a configuration, in the worst case, have a diagnostic done by a technician for around €30 just to be sure.
Hoping to have helped you, crakken ^^

So, the power supply is 800W (SilentPro Gold). It’s reasonably warm and the fans are not running at full speed. I don’t feel like it crashes more when it heats up, as it doesn't crash, for example, when I launch a game.
By the way, it crashes all the time at the beginning. After about 1 hour of startup (after a few crashes), it’s usually fine. It won’t crash again after that (except for exceptions).
After calculating on a website, I need a power supply of 495 watts...

Uh... SilentPro Gold 800W... As far as I'm concerned, it can't come from that...
A professional could check the state of the power supply's electrical system with a multimeter, so if you can't find anything about this problem either on your own or online, there's no choice but to call in a technician (I don't like saying that, but when there's no choice...). Bc, crakken ^^

As for the connections, yeah, well, not really. I can't see how that could be the problem since it crashes mostly in the first hour. And in the meantime, I've already changed the GPU, changed the connections (I have 2 outputs on my GPU), switched between HDMI and DVI, and nothing works.
For the memtest, I installed it, but I admit I find its operation a bit overwhelming...
I'll see about updating the BIOS, God willing!
My motherboard... Even AIDA32 doesn't give me any precise information about it! What do you want to know?
Software and viruses: no problem (for now...)
