Hello,

I would like to know if it is preferable to use 1920x816 or 1280x720?
From my understanding:
- with 1920x816 it would be 1080p but with black bars (at the top and bottom of the video).
- with 1270x720 it would be 720p but without the black bars.

Please tell me if I’m wrong and if what I said is correct, which of these two formats to choose. (whatever you prefer otherwise)

Thank you.

    good evening,

    you’re wrong :)
    1920x816 does not exist
    1080p is 1920*1080 hence its name 1080p

The 1920x816 does exist indeed. I’ve checked on the internet. And the 1920x1080 would be 1080p without the black bars. I checked the NFO of a film where the resolution was 1920x816 and I’m almost sure it’s 1080p, but what would bother me are the black bars; if they’re present, I would opt for 1270x720.

    Hello,

The 1920x816 would correspond to a Cinemascope image with a 2.35:1 aspect, so indeed on a 16:9 screen you’ll have black bars at the top and bottom.
See the main formats (the latest like 4K are not included): https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Format_de_projection#Les_principaux_formats

Some TVs allow you to distort this through cropping techniques (the original image is cut) or through fullscreen, for example.

For me, everyone has their preferences, but if you want to see your video occupying all the space of your player (the TV?), choosing 1280x720 resolution seems more sensible to me.

    Best regards

At 1920x816, it would be closer to 720p than 1080p, with black bars (on the left and right of the video).
