Hello, I'm reaching out today because I'm trying to connect 2 different monitors to my graphics card, but only one of the two is recognized. After testing several solutions on similar topics, the problem persists.
Here’s my setup: I'm on Windows 8.0, as I understand it about my computer (I’m trying to upgrade to 8.1, but I'm unable to as I've read many solutions specific to 8.1).
My first monitor is a Flatron W1946 at 1360x768.
My second monitor is a Fujitsu Siemens C17-13 (which was given to me) at 1360x1024.
My graphics card is a Radeon HD 6850 with updated drivers, with 2 DVI outputs connected via adapters to each in VGA.
When I swap the connections of the monitors, the other one takes the relay, and nothing changes; it’s still impossible to have 2 monitors recognized.
The goal is to have one window on each screen with different wallpapers (for now).
I'm looking forward to your solutions because it’s 6 AM, and I can't take it anymore; I’ve been at it since around 7 PM.

Hello.
You need to check if you have the right cables and it could also be the cause of the adapter.
Video output connections.
DisplayPort Female, 2 x DVI Female, HDMI Female.
DVI Output Standard
1 x DVI-D (DVI-Digital), 1 x DVI-I Dual-Link (24+5)
DVI Dual-Link
Yes

I didn't understand anything, sorry, can you be clearer for the noob that I am in this field?
On my graphics card, I have 2 DVI-I female outputs that I connect with adapters to female VGA because my 2 screens are male VGA. -
I just looked on the site where I ordered it, I found the same model and brand with just a slight difference in look (https://www.materiel.net/carte-graphique/l426/
And here are the connections I have:
Number of DVI ports 2
Type of DVI 1 DVI-I and 1 DVI-D
Dual-Link compatible Yes, one
HDCP compatible Yes
Number of HDMI ports 1
HDMI version supported 1.4a
DisplayPort 1
Maximum resolution 2560 x 1600 (Dual-Link DVI)
TV output Yes
TV output type Via the HDMI port
HDTV output Yes
HDTV output type Via the HDMI port
What should I do to have 2 VGA screens connected at the same time? I remind you that the goal is to extend my desktop and not to duplicate. -
Hi Chakal!
From what I know, under Windows 7, dual screens are almost managed automatically; only customization of the positioning between the two screens and the choice of duplication or extension is necessary...
After testing Windows 8 when it was released for about............ 1 hour
I don't really know it in detail...
(The "Touch" organization with the mouse is very unpleasant!)
However, to avoid telling you anything wrong, I advise you, if you haven't already, to check out Clubic with their well-made image tutorials or the Microsoft site directly.
(The links will take you directly to the right page)
Looking forward to it, hoping to have the answer to your problem once resolved.
Best regards.

I inquired with Materiel.net, and now I know why I can't do dual screen since my outputs are DVI-I and DVI-D on my MSI Radeon HD 6850 graphics card.
The DVI-I supports passing to VGA with an adapter, which means from digital to analog, but the DVI-D does not support going to analog, so VGA, but it does support HDMI since it is digital.
I was advised to try connecting via HDMI (since I have a port) to VGA with an "HDMI / VGA Video Adapter - IB-AC502" for just about €30 (https://www.materiel.net/produit/201403050012.html, but there's a 50% chance it will work, according to the advisor (because it's not certain that HDMI in digital supports passing to VGA analog), I checked at a local store and found the same information; the results are also uncertain.
So to be sure and avoid buying an adapter that might be useless, even though I think it should work since the adapter is sold (by the way, it's not a simple adapter because there's a box present to modify the signal as I was explained in the store), I preferred to buy a screen with DVI-D for dual screen (LG 25UM65 25" 21:9 screen - https://www.cdiscount.com/informatique/ecrans-informatiques/lg-25um65-ecran-25-21-9eme/f-10732-lg8806084668998.html), and then keep my original LG W1946 on the DVI-I port and place it in portrait mode next to the other.
I should receive my screen on Friday, and I will keep you updated if everything goes as I wish, and if so, I will mark this topic as resolved. -
Well, I got my new monitor which is just amazing because it's connected via HDMI (cable included) and the dual screen works perfectly with my first monitor connected via VGA using an adapter on the DVI-I port.
So the difference in image quality between analog for VGA and digital for HDMI is very noticeable.
Plus, with my new 21:9 monitor, I can put 2 windows on it, and therefore have 3 windows because even when divided in 2, the display is almost 16:9, with the resolution of my 21:9 at 2560x1080 compared to that of my old 16:9 monitor at 1360x768.
Thanks to everyone anyway, it remains to be seen one day if the HDMI to VGA adapter would have worked. When I have a bit more means, I will buy it to see and add a 3rd monitor without having to buy another one (for now) ^^-
