Black screen, startup impossible - Sony VAIO Closed

Hello,

Here is my problem: my computer (a Sony VAIO VGC-V2S) refuses to start.

It powers on properly, the power indicator is on, but nothing appears on the screen (no VAIO logo, no Windows logo). In short, total black. This isn't the first time this has happened to me; it did the same last year, in the summer when it was hot. But I always managed to restart it after a while (using the F2 key notably or by using a fan to cool it down). This time, nothing at all. I've pressed F2 numerous times, restarted it, let it cool for half a day, and still nothing! All I get is a beep indicating it starts, 10 seconds of silence, a beep, and then nothing.

Before coming to you for help, I looked in the user guide, manuals, and other resources but found nothing concrete that could help me. I also checked various forums (including this one). But I'm not sure I can make an accurate "diagnosis." I don't know whether it's just a overheating issue, a BIOS problem, or something else.

Another issue is that I can't reinstall my computer since I don't have the installation CDs. I discovered way too late that everything I need to reinstall my computer is INSIDE the computer...

In short, I don't know what to do anymore, and I would like your opinion before I go see a repairman...

Earlier, I received a Sony Vaio laptop for repair, and it had the same symptoms you mentioned
that is to say a black screen on startup, the Caps Lock LED doesn't light up but otherwise everything is fine, the fan runs normally
I just fixed it, it was a graphics card issue
you can give it a try with a screwdriver and a hairdryer and you're good to go

I'll try to connect an external monitor to start.

If it beeps, everything is fine on his end. That is to say, memory stick, hard drive, keyboard, ...

But the monitor might be dead.

So let's test it.

hello, I have had a SONY VAIO laptop for about 8 months... and I've returned it to service twice: the first time for a burnt graphics card and/or motherboard, and the second time for a supposed electrical adjustment problem (in fact, it wouldn't start despite numerous attempts)... this problem is known by SONY, and especially by their customer service. I've browsed many forums and it turns out that SONY is no better than ACER at the moment... regarding the startup issue, there are many hypotheses (power supply soldering problems and/or other components). As for hard drives and/or motherboards failing after 3 months, it turns out that it's also a recurring issue on certain series.
Following the second breakdown, I requested a straightforward exchange of my device since it was no longer reliable after two trips to service... SONY refused... and that's why I'm considering filing a complaint against them for hidden defects... and another complaint with the DGCCRF.
I am currently trying to gather testimonies from people who have SONY VAIO laptops and are facing the same issues.
Lastly, if I had to do it again, I would choose an ASUS or at least an ACER; at least they are clear about their issues. My VAIO model is VGN A617B, but it seems that the problem is not limited to just this series.

My Vaio VGN-NR21Z died on me after 2 years and 2 months, it's strange that there are so many similar problems, apparently here on the VG series, probably on others too. I'll check after. Personally, I paid less than €1000 for my PC, which is quite low for Sony; maybe the company is trying to make us pay for the usage time of their equipment? :/

same issue on a Vaio VPCY21S1E
At startup, black screen (but lit), we hear the usual acceleration post startup of the fan, but no other sign of activity:
No sound, no disk activity, no keyboard response....

I would tend to suspect the BIOS or the motherboard....

Do you have more information? Because it's certain that the after-sales service is appealing... especially since I'm no longer under warranty.
