Hello,

I have an AMD R7 265 graphics card with Windows 8.1, and when I start playing, the driver crashes about 1 in 3 times and freezes my screen. I can move the mouse, but I can't do anything else; everything is stuck. If I watch a video or do other things without playing, it has been fine so far. I had an older setup before this one, and the card (the same one on another setup) worked well without any issues.

Thanks for the help.

Configuration: Windows / Firefox 33.0

Hello, right-click on the Start icon and click on Device Manager. Once in the manager, click on the + or arrow next to Display Adapters, right-click on the graphics card, and select Properties, then Driver to give the date and version of the driver.
Then, still on the graphics card, right-click, Properties, Details, and go to Device Instance ID to provide the corresponding numbers here.

Okay, apparently this is a beta version, the 14.301.1004.0. Install driver version 14.301.1001 available here (the first one). Install it manually by right-clicking on the graphics card (in the manager) and selecting "Update driver," then "Browse my computer for drivers," etc. It's possible that you encountered an error during installation, let us know if that's the case. See you!

Actually, I installed this version because AMD admitted that the stable version had a bug and it's more of a patch for BSOD issues. When I installed it, it told me there were no errors, but you never know. (This is my first AMD card..)
I don't uninstall it, do I? I just do as you said? It's not going to tell me that I have a newer version?

try it like this since you’re installing it manually! if there’s a problem we’ll do it another way

I installed it as you said, but I had to uninstall the ones I had before. It was telling me, it seemed, that I had newer ones. Anyway, after having everything cleaned, I manually installed the driver without any problem. I don't have CCC or anything. Now let's see the result; I'll post an update to see if it still skips or not.

ok download and install Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 13.4.0.0 (special graphics card) available here unzip it to have the .exe application uninstall the current graphics driver (the last installed 14.301.1001) the basic controller should take over, double click on Display Driver Uninstaller .exe if it asks you for an update refuse (this is the latest version) it will create a restore point, it will ask you to go into safe mode, refuse, you will have a window like this at the bottom right choose the language click on the dropdown list "select graphic driver" choose AMD do not check any boxes leave it like that (2 boxes are checked automatically the last 2) click clean and restart if it searches for a driver automatically cancel then install the 14.301.1001 driver manually! (the same as before) here for reference see if it's better @+

Actually, that's exactly what I did right before, I cleaned it with DDU as well and installed it manually afterwards.

Okay, have you checked DirectX? Is DirectDraw, Direct3D, or AGP texture acceleration listed as Enabled? And do you have the right version?

Yes, I ran a DxDiag and everything is enabled, no issues detected in the remarks.

In the Catalyse Control Center, check if you have a power option called "power play" and see if you can set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance."

Knowing that I installed it clean, I don't have CCC, but when I had it, it wasn't there either, I also looked for the power play.

See if you can put it, otherwise is your framework updated? The correct version (64bits).

I put back ccc but nothing power play..

When I right-click / AMD ccc I go directly to:

      Then on AMD overDrive:

      Otherwise nothing else..

And for the framework, yes, the 64-bit update has already been done.

Well, I just saw on my son's PC that even with the same driver version and CCC, there is no power section! Right-click on the speaker icon in the playback devices, right-click on the Realtek audio hardware and disable them! Try the games, I know it sounds stupid, but give it a shot.

Hello, so what is the motherboard? If you can, give the driver version and when the screen freezes do you still have sound? And finally, besides your graphics card, give the name of the other graphics card (integrated) and disable the integrated card to only have the AMD R7 265 and try it!

ud4 x99, no integrated graphics chipset. I went back to Windows 7, it bugs differently, it blocks the game process, so I can go into the task manager to kill it and relaunch it. But well, it still bugs in a way. Even though it's less annoying, it's still present. When it freezes, the sound also cuts off, it freezes too. The process goes into "not responding."

    small update.

I wanted to try installing an old game and shockingly, I encountered a DirectX error while playing it after 2 minutes. The game crashed then. Maybe a lead.

error: DirectX Encountered An Unrecoverable Error Solution

re: if it's "call of duty........." I think it's an error independent of your initial "crash"

No, it wasn't Call of Duty, but the problem has been resolved at this level. New thing: while watching a stream online, the drivers crashed, with the notification that the driver has crashed and as a result, my internet browser crashed too... can't we see an error report or something like that to know? It's frustrating...

I suspect it’s tiring! For the report, click Start in the search bar and enter "Event Viewer," see if you have anything!

Thank you, it helped me find a problem, or maybe even THE problem... it's due to Kernel mode, I'm filled with it and I looked online, it seems that's where it comes from. Now the question is how to fix the problem... that's another kettle of fish!

Just so you know, I already tested reinstalling everything, I had tried to adjust the TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery), where it was said to set 2 and 0 as values in each key but it gave me a black screen that forced me to reboot... the rest remains to be seen.

Okay, check in "services" on the line "Microsoft .NET Framework NGEN x64 (or x86)" if it is set to "Automatic (Delayed Start)", see the version (v.4.0.30319-x64) if it's the right one. Other than that, physically recheck the card installation, change slots to see, or if it's the "kernel mode", check in services (mentioned above) or install an older driver that might resolve the issue!
