Ethernet cable: How does it work?

Hello, I currently have low-speed internet and I want to switch to ADSL. Only extended 512K ADSL is available at my home.
My seller tells me that IF I DO NOT HAVE AN ETHERNET CABLE (and socket), I cannot get ADSL!
Are there any other solutions? Is it expensive to have an Ethernet cable installed? Please respond, I'm not very good with computers!
Thank you
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello, in fact, you just need to check if you have an Ethernet card on your PC. If that's the case, no problemo then. As for the cable, you need an RJ45 cable (normally provided with your modem). When you subscribe to an ISP, you will receive a modem; you just need to connect the modem to your telephone socket and link it to your PC. To check if you have an Ethernet card, go to Start, Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Network Adapter, and there if you have an Ethernet card, you will see its name/designation.

Hello,
Indeed, 512k ADSL is not great! But depending on the modem you choose, you'll have the option to connect via Ethernet (by the way, if you have a network card in your PC, buying an Ethernet cable will only cost you a handful of Euros), Wi-Fi, or USB. Keep us updated =) See you soon!
