Electric shocks coming from the cable... ethernet :o

Hello,
I've been running on WiFi for the past 2-3 days, which is very annoying when I'm gaming or chatting on MSN.
A week ago, I changed my Livebox because it didn't recognize my PC connected via Ethernet,
we changed the Livebox, and I still can't connect!!
And when I tried to unplug the Ethernet cable from the Livebox, I got a nice little shock as well!!
I unplugged the cable, and I did tests whether the PC is off or on, there's always power running through it,
So for now, the cable is unplugged.
I was using a straight RJ45 cat 6 PIMF double shielded cable. (there's metal on it)
I tried connecting with a non-metal shielded cable and no shock, I wonder if it’s the case that the tower is in contact with the cable; unfortunately, I can't open my PC to see if the network card is properly connected because I'm still under warranty and I don't want to void it (damn)

For two months everything was working fine :(

Sorry for any spelling mistakes if there are any.

I have an ACER X3200
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.1

    Good evening

this is more than abnormal, normally the case is connected to the ground so there shouldn't be any current on the case of the tower.

if you touch a metal part of the tower do you feel the current as well?

No, actually when I unplug the cable from my PC or touch my PC, I don't feel any electric shock!

It may be the Ethernet card; is the socket where the PC is plugged in properly grounded? Sometimes the ground wire might not be connected (I've seen it before).

If I were you, I would have the PC checked before the warranty expires.

He has barely been 2 months old so I think I can go to Auchan where I bought it to have it checked ^^

I think the cause of the electric shock is the double shielding because with a non-shielded cable, I don't receive any electric shocks. Tomorrow I'll check if connecting my PC near the livebox gives me internet.
When I plug my Ethernet cable into my PC without it being linked to the livebox, should I have a green light on?

Normally, the LED corresponding to the Ethernet should light up when the cable is connected to the PC, or at least that's what I say... mine is not a Livebox.

Because when I plug in an Ethernet cable, no lights are on, but the cable is not connected to the Livebox, is that normal?

The light should only turn on if the Livebox detects the PC; for it to turn on, the cable must be connected on both ends.

Oki thanks I'm going to try to find the invoice and go to Auchan ^^
A buddy at school told me that my Ethernet card might be defective but it worked well for 2 months,
Apparently it's better to keep the double shielding ^^
