Hello,
A few months ago I ran into a problem that apparently many MacBook users experience: the headphone jack has deteriorated. As a result, I have no sound from the built-in speakers, the volume icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen is grayed out. When I press the volume buttons, the speaker icon appears grayed out, and a "no parking" (a circle with a slash) panel appears.
I tried to push in and pull out a jack several times in the port but nothing. Same for the toothpick method, poking the headphone jack with a toothpick to try to remove a false contact. In short, it doesn’t work. However, when a jack is plugged in, the computer recognizes that there is a device, so I can then select that it is an audio input and thus the speakers work, but the built-in microphone no longer works.
For a while I’ve been using a jack tip always plugged into the computer, but it’s quite awkward.
Do you know if there exists a method to completely “disable” the headphone jack, so that I can no longer plug audio devices into the jack but at least the built-in speakers and microphone would work at the same time?
Thanks in advance,
Marc
Configuration: Mac OS X (10.9.4) / Safari 7.0.6
