Hello, I'm reaching out to you because I need help! I own the Midland Alan 18 CB radio and, to be honest, I have never been able to pick up a single voice... only noise. I'm a beginner, but I understand that I have a better chance of contacting someone on channel 19 in AM (like truckers, for example), but still nothing for now... and this has been going on for a while.
So I started doing some research and noticed that in all the YouTube videos regarding this CB, the "TX" light was not on, while mine is always on (and turns red when I speak), which makes me wonder if that's why I can't hear anyone? As I said, I'm a novice but a big fan of radio communication; could you explain to me what this light means? Does it indicate the radio silence? How can I turn it off?

A big thank you in advance.

Hello....
Tx = transmission and Rx = reception...
If your Tx is on, the pedal may be stuck....
The CB uses the same channel for transmission and reception, unlike the phone... so you can't receive while you are transmitting...
Look into that.

After some research, I believe I have, thanks to you, located my problem. I read on the following website: http://www.pmsc.fr/bidouilles/branchements.php that the pinout of the microphone is not the same depending on the brands. My microphone comes from an old Cibi "roadstar" that I no longer have, and my current Cibi is an Alan 18.
I then turned on my soldering iron and made these few modifications. However, I tried exchanging all the wires inside the microphone in every possible order, but none work correctly except when I re-solder them in their original state.
My problem remains unsolved; the TX light is constantly green, and when I press the microphone pedal, it turns red, yet there is still no one on the airwaves.
When I type "Midland alan 18" on YouTube, all the functional Cibi units have the TX light turned off. I do not understand where my problem might be coming from.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Have a good day.

Re....
You need to adjust the squelch so that you don't only have noise, but also, don't cut everything off!
Ideally, you should position yourself near a motorway toll, there are always trucks with CBs there...
You press the pedal and you say "attention stations, this is for a TX test"... it would be surprising if no one responded to you... but not necessarily in French....!
The range in normal use is about 10 km... it can, depending on weather conditions... go up to 50 km, or down to 2 km...!
Your diode that changes from green to red doesn’t shock me after all... I don't know this model, maybe it’s designed like that?!
