Hello everyone,
I've searched but certainly not well enough to find a solution to my problem.
Let me explain:
I set up a local network behind a LiveBox pro for my brother-in-law's company.
There is a NAS, some computers, and a network printer.
I would like to connect to his local network remotely via a VPN to exchange work files.
I installed and configured Shrew as advised by Orange.
It connects well, and the LiveBox recognizes my VPN connection on the admin interface.
But in my explorer, I can't see the working computers, the NAS, and the printer on the remote network.
I don't know what to do to see the local network on my computer when I'm at home.
NAT settings or routing table? I admit I don't really master this.
Is there a tutorial for this configuration or a topic that already addresses this type of configuration?
Thank you in advance for your insights.
David

When I ping the LAN IP of a device on the remote local network that I want to join, with Shrew VPN activated,
for example 192.168.1.201 which corresponds to the NAS behind the router,
it responds with my LAN IP address of my computer on my home network:
Response from 192.168.1.34: Unable to reach the destination host
I think this is a routing or port opening issue, but I'm a bit stuck on that.
I've tested a few things without success.
For your information, I am behind a Freebox at home.
I believe the solution lies in the configuration of the routers of the boxes, but how to set them up is my problem, I don't understand everything!!
I've ordered a brain....

Apparently there is a addressing issue, I suggest you modify the network on the Livebox side, for example 192.168.2.0/24 instead of 192.168.1.0/24
Have you followed this tutorial?

My local network is on 192.168.1.xx and the remote network is also on 192.168.1.xx.
The VPN tunnel from the software recommended by Orange starts at 192.168.5.1 and ends at 192.168.5.11 in the LiveBox settings.
How do you manage to enter 192.168.2.0 in the LiveBox? It gives me an invalid IP in the DHCP configuration.
I followed the tutorial well, but without DynDNS because I have a fixed IP.
In fact, when I launch the VPN, everything is fine; the LiveBox sees the VPN connection.
Except that, in my opinion, 192.168.5.1 is different from the local network at 192.168.1.1, which is probably why I can't see the devices on my local network.
How do we see computers that are not on the same layer?
Apparently, it is not possible to extend the local subnet mask, 255.255.252.0, to encompass the VPN.
I keep searching, but I lack network concepts to understand the logic.

==>> that's where the problem lies, if you can't change the network on the livebox side then change the network on the freebox side
There are two types of VPN:
- Bridge mode VPN
- Routed mode VPN
Here, we are clearly talking about a routed mode VPN, reread the link I provided to you.

ok thanks Barnabe0057,
I can modify the local and remote network as I wish, I have control over the LiveBox and the Freebox.
I will look into the routed VPN topic with the link.
I will flag the post as resolved if I succeed.
Thanks for your responses.

Daid78, have you solved your problem?
I have a similar one:
2 livebox pros (2 and 3), VPN created between the two, 2 distinct networks 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.2.1.
I can ping from the computers on the 192.168.1.1 network some computers on the other network.
So far, so good!
I also want to ping some scales on the 192.168.2.1 network from 192.168.1.1, but it's impossible; they are not visible.
Where could the problem come from?
Types of VPN
Opening certain ports??
My IT knowledge doesn't go any further.
Thank you for your insights.

Hello Vertige,
I managed to set up a VPN between the distant LiveBox Pro and my computer via my Freebox.
thanks to the Orange ShrewSoft VPN software.
The distant network is on 192.168.1.x and mine is on 192.168.2.x
Currently, the distant computers are turned off due to the annual year-end closure of my brother-in-law's company.
I can't ping their computers and I can't wake them up remotely for now.
On the other hand, I've installed a Synology NAS that runs continuously, and I can ping it at the address 192.168.1.201 while the IP address of my computer is 192.168.2.34
So for me, the connection between the two networks works correctly thanks to the activation of the VPN function of the LiveBox Pro, which should be taking care of routing communication packets from one network to the other.
However, I can't see the distant devices in my Windows Explorer to browse the distant directories. I'm digging into the matter.
I have also activated the Ipsec service in the firewall of my distant LiveBox, without opening any other ports than the one for the Ipsec service in the firewall.
I want to set up a remote roaming connection for my brother-in-law like I have at work with my work laptop.
I launch my VPN, and I can see the entirety of my corporate network, and I can work as if I were in the office.
I need this to manage their computers and the distant network.
I also use TeamViewer for remote control of PCs.
That's where I stand, I'm progressing slowly.
See you later.
