Hello,
I have a problem with Money on W7. The file is saved as mbf instead of mny. I saw that there might be a link to restore the file? THANK YOU for helping me out.

    Thank you

    I reinstalled Money as you had indicated, but it didn't work. My backup (which I also make on an external drive) is in mbf format, so apparently unusable.
    I think I'm going to change software, but what bothers me is losing some data.
    Thank you

      Hello;

      Have you tried changing the extension of your backup file from ******** .mny to .mbf and making a new attempt to recover your backup?
      Cheers

      Nota ;
      I think I said something silly earlier because I believe that you cannot rename a mbf to mny, but you can try this
      Open MsMoney and look at the top File >> Click on it and Restore a backup copy >> MsMoney will then look for recent files and with a bit of luck you might find a backup with the mny extension and if that works and the backup is not too old, you can manually update what will save you from having to change everything or switch software
      See this screenshot

    Hello;

    You need to restore the MsMoney installation from this link after completely uninstalling the already installed MsMoney on the machine provided that you have the latest valid backup of your accounts to restart MsMoney from that backup

    Uninstallation procedure for MsMoney below
    1-Make sure your last backup is up to date: If not, make this backup on a removable medium (USB drive-CD/RW or External HDD)

    2-Completely uninstall MsMoney using Revo Uninstaller to download
    https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/19405-revo-uninstaller/
    Launch this tool, search for Microsoft MsMoney and uninstall it

    3-Open hidden files in Windows / If problems >> See the link below
    http://www.chantal11.com/2009/04/afficher-les-fichiers-caches-systeme-windows-7-vista/
    then browse the path C:\User(Name of the user)\AppData\local\Microsoft >> Search for Money and delete it

    4-Open the registry using the command Regedit (by clicking on the Windows icon at the bottom left, type regedit and open it (see at the top of the window))
    Open the key Hkey_Current_User then search for Software >> Microsoft >> Money > To delete
    Open the key Hkey_Local_Machine and perform the same operation

    5-Restart the machine

    6-Reinstall MsMoney using the update patch (and not with the installation CD) in Windows XP compatibility mode

    7-Download the MsMoney update patch
    https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/bureautique/15561-microsoft-money-2005/
    then install it following the procedure from the link
    (The patch installation must be done in Windows XP compatibility mode)

    8-Start MsMoney from the backup made in 1- and everything should be in order

    For security reasons >> Always make a backup of MsMoney on a removable medium
    You need to configure your backup by using the screenshots from the patch download link
