Hello, I'm writing this message hoping you can help me. My hard drive is dead, I've bought a new one and I've reinstalled Money2000. Of course, I had backed up my data on a floppy disk. When I try to restore it, a message like this appears: Microsoft Money is unable to find the file, it must be related to mbf or mny. If you can help me, I would be very grateful as I have three years of accounts on it. Thank you.

I'm thinking of one thing: what extension does your file have? mbf or mny?
If it's an mny file, it's not a backup; it's the uncompressed money file...

You open the Money application and click on File > Restore a backup copy > Open a different backup file > there it will search all the files and find the one you copied from your diskette or the same one if you leave the diskette in the drive and you just have to choose...
Yes, but it asks me again for a location for the restore, it gives me a default one but I get the same error message, it cannot find the file mny. I don't know what else to do, if you have another idea, thank you.
Hi Charley,
Start by copying your backup file to the hard drive and then double-click on it and it should open...
See you later :-))

I successfully copied the file to my hard drive and it is indeed read-only. I got the number of a Microsoft technician and I will try to call tomorrow, we'll see what he tells me. Thank you for your help, but if you have any other ideas, please let me know. Thanks.
For your information, I'm having the same issue after a PC change.
I've tried going through "open" "file .mny" or "restoring a backup file" with "file.mny"
Each time the same response: "incorrect access path"
I ended up performing an export and import via Quicken file.
Now I'm having issues analyzing my accounts.
It's a hassle.

Hello,
After several unsuccessful attempts to restore my *.mbf file (over 10 years of data),
I finally succeeded last night (after quite a bit of browsing the web).
My first issue was the update of Money, which wouldn't go through. The solution is to run Money as an administrator. To do this, you need to right-click on either the shortcut icon or the executable file of Money, and select "run as administrator...".
I then restarted Money and the update went through on the first try. I then initiated the restoration of my *.mbf file and, miraculously, all the data came back.
There you go, I hope this can help some of you
Good luck!

Once you are on the list and have found your file, in this list, click on the file you want to restore, then click on Restore.
In the "Save to" dialog box, select the folder where you want to store the backup file (for example, a folder called "Money backup" that you have previously created in the "my documents" folder).
In the "File name" dialog box, type a name for this backup file (different from any other file names that may be present on your hard drive), then click OK.
There’s no reason it shouldn’t work...

He still doesn't want to, the same error message appears, I don't understand anything. There's definitely a solution? Thank you.
Re,
Once you are on the window where you previously indicated the path to your folder and the name of your file, before clicking on Ok, take a screenshot (alt+print screen) which you will save as a file in "jpeg" format using "paint" and save it in "my documents."
Do the same after clicking on ok (copy the error message).
When you have your two jpeg files, go here:
http://cjoint.com/
click on browse and look for your first image > ok > and then "create the cjoint link." The site will give you an address that you will select, copy, and paste into your CCm message.
Do the same for the second image.
With that, we will be able to verify: the information you provide and then the software error message.
See you soon :-)

It doesn't work when I press Alt+Print Screen, I can't save them in JPEG format, impossible, still stuck, what should I do? Thank you for helping me.
No, but I managed to do what you told me. Do I need to wait to receive an email? Thank you for helping me. We'll see what they say. By the way, how long do they usually take to respond?
No, not at all! Cjoint gives you an address immediately!
After clicking on browse and choosing your file (important: file saved in jpg format and not in bmp as the link won't display over 250 Ko), you click on "create the cjoint link" and a few seconds later, another page opens (the one that appears on the link below) with a link of the same kind that you select and copy here:

Right-click on your backup file > properties > general tab > check if the read-only attribute is checked, in which case uncheck it > apply > ok and repeat the operation
It’s not working either, I don’t understand. I hope I haven’t lost all my accounts. Thank you for what you’re doing, but if you have another solution, I’m interested. Thanks again.
Were you able to copy the file to your hard drive?
Your file is not marked as "read-only," right?
Try scanning your diskette to see if it's defective:

If not, you should ask for advice from your acquaintances to try to reinstall it at one of your friends' who also has money, but I know that it's rather tricky in this matter...
