What is mounting an ISO?

Hello everyone, I wanted to download a software on PC and I read the description and they said to mount the ISO. I wanted to know what it is? Thank you in advance!

    An ISO file is an "image" file, which could be compared to a CD or DVD among other things.

    For example, all files and folders of a game will be extracted and grouped into an ISO file.

    To open them, you need to use software like Daemon Tools for instance.

    This software will create a virtual drive on your workstation.

    After that, you just need to right-click on the ISO icon / Open with / DaemonTools

      I don't understand because we can read images on a PC without doing anything, while with an ISO, there are tons of things to do. I don't see the difference; we should normally be able to play games!
